Whirlpool Canada Whirlpool Refridgerator FAILS after only 4 YEARS Mississauga, Ontario Canada |
14th of Apr, 2013 by User559317 |
4 years ago we purchased a matching Whirlpool fridge and freezer. The fridge stopped working properly and the service technician said we need to replace the compressor, evaporator and heat exchanger. Cost estimate is approx. $1000.00. I contacted Whirlpool through the website detailing the problem and requesting their assistance in rectifying the situation. Their response is below.(bold lettering) Basically they think a complete failure of their product after 4 years is OK and they are hiding behind their warranty terms and therefore offered no assistance. We are now left with a choice of either a $1000.00 repair bill or a new fridge at a cost of about $1500.00. I have been unable to contact them by phone because I am currently working in Mexico and the 800# won't work from Mexico and they do not have any other number that I can phone to actually talk to a person. Pretty pathetic response from a leading appliance manufacturer. Not likely to ever buy their products again. Thank you for visiting the Whirlpool web site. We appreciate hearing from you. We apologize for the issue with your refrigerator not cooling. Whirlpool is dedicated to manufacturing top quality appliances. Although we use only the best materials on the market today, we cannot guarantee there will not be repairs or part replacements needed during the appliance’s lifetime. Experience shows inherent defects in parts or workmanship will show within the first 90 days of operation. Our warranty will cover these 90 days and 9 months were added making one full year manufacture warranty to ensure the protection of our consumers. The warranty expired on your refrigerator in 2010. Unfortunately, we only have the 1-800-807-6777 phone number for our consumers due to the routing of calls to the next available consultant. Consumers have the option to purchase an extended warranty to cover the unexpected repair expenses that can occur. If the consumer elects not to make that purchase, they assume all responsibility for repair cost once the manufacture warranty expires. We uphold our warranty, but also follow our policy. In an effort to administer our warranty fairly to all customers, Whirlpool complies with our legal, written, product warranty. Once the warranty has expired, any costs for maintenance, service or component replacement are the owner's responsibility. Since the warranty has expired, we would be unable to honor your requests for a free repairs or a replacement unit at no cost. Thank you for allowing us to address this issue with you today. You are a valued customer and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
