Wheeler's Moving picked up the household goods from our winter home on June 2, 2010 to be placed into storage with a larger group of items already in Wheeler's hands from a May pickup while our condominium was being refurbished. On the agreed delivery date in September, Wheeler indicated they could not locate any of the items in this second lot. Since then, for the past 6 weeks, they have told us they were searching their warehouse crates, partially for us and partially for an auction of goods they planned for which storage fees had gone unpaid. As we checked and re-checked with Wheeler every 2-3 days, no progress was made. Last week, we were told this search was virtually complete and our items were still missing. If they are not in the warehouseand there is no evidence Wheeler can provide they arethen the logical presumption is that the goods have been stolen by a Wheeler employee or at the very least that Wheeler did not exercise its guardianship to prevent theft by someone else. If they were/are in the warehouse, then 6 weeks is sufficient time for a thorough search to be undertaken to meet Wheeler's contractual obligation to return the valuable, necessary contents. The value of the merchandise, which we have verified through reciepts or the equivalent, is slightly greaterrr than $22,000. They have offered only $700, claiming they owe only $.60 per pound. We signed no such waiver when they picked up the merchandise.
