Westgate Resorts, 2801 Old Winter Garden Road, Ocoee, FL 34761 Contract # 2501221525-025
The complaint involves deceptive sales practices and taking advantage of a disability. The subject involves a timeshare purchase. We have tried to settle with the company, Westgate Resorts, to no avail. We have also filed with the BBB to no avail. We have also filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Both are investigating.
We made the purchase in Utah Dec. 12, 2012. When attending a fair in Park City a representative offered us a weekend stay at a resort for $50, and if we came and listened to a presentation, we would get our money back. He did not even mention the term “timeshare,” but led us to believe it was a special promotion for the resort. So we went. That’s when the hard-sell began. It was pretty easy to see that were naive and easy to see we could be taken advantage of, especially since I, Casey, have a learning disability. We were bombarded for several hours and though we tried to leave several times, we were hooked back in for another barrage of confusing information supported with more free gifts. We were told this timeshare would be a fantastic financial investment and that we would be fools to pass up this opportunity. He said the investment would do nothing but go up in value and we could easily sell it for profit or rent it out to make money. When we asked questions, the rep would only give us half answers.
After we were convinced to purchase, we learned that we had been told nothing but lies and misrepresentations. We have tried several times to sell, but most companies we contacted were just scamming. So first a scam by the timeshare sales people, then a scam from resellers. We also tried various advertising sites to sell, but quickly learned that the timeshare was worth about $1 on E-bay and Craigs List. We were taken advantage of and swindled everywhere, starting with Westgate—who wants nothing to do with us. No one returns our calls and the only answers to our letters is that we signed the contract, now we have to pay—no excuses. We have not used the timeshare once as the procedure is just too difficult. We were taken advantage of by Westgate’s unethical behavior. We want out of this nightmare. |
