I purchased a $700 Moneygram money order from WalMart, there was no questions asked nor was there any kind of disclosure...they took my $700 and gave me the money order. A week later , I returned to the same WalMart to cash the money order and get another one in a lesser amount. At that time, I was subjected to a check cashing screen as if they were processing a personal check. The WalMart cashier said I was declined. Declined? How can I be declined on a money order I paid cash for? The cashier was looking at my drivers license but she asked how was my name used. Is it Fleming...Perez...or Fleming-Perez? Just like it is on my I.D. I guess. So three(3) other cashiers tried to input my name 3 more times...still declined. They can't help me. At the cashier's request I called Certegy, the check cashing service got nothing but call tree saying based on previous checks cashed they can't cash this amount for me. What is going on? I asked for a supervisor. Asst. Manager, Danny finally came to the situation. He did nothing different. Input my name 2 or 3 times and said Certegy declined me and theres nothing he can do about it. I was dumbfounded. Nowhere in the store is any disclosure posted advising customers that when a money order is purchased or cashed you will be screened by a check cashing service. Nowhere on the money order document is any reference to a check cashing profile being necessary. I'm left with a $700 Moneygram money order, bought & paid for with cash, from WalMart, the largest retailer in the country, and all they can say is "I can't help you." A ripoff? Something is wrong with this picture & something needs to be done about it. Since when does anyone have to be scrutinized by a check cashing service for an item that was paid for in cash. It's worse than a ripoff. It's offensive. Companies this big should be held accountable to their customers, not take our money and leave us hanging. Unprofessional and unacceptable. Change the policy it doesn't benefit the consumer. |
