Thanks for posting! They just sent this scam letter to me today, I got suspicious when I realized it was a trademark I allowed to go dead and was using the original address I registered with even though the address had since changed in the database a while ago. |

We knew our trademark was up for renewal and had already received letters from other scammers trying to do it for us. This one, however, I thought was the actual renewal (it looks THAT official) at first glance and threw it in the bill pile. On reading thoroughly, however, I discovered the "this is not a bill" clause which indicated they are not a gov't agency. I contacted the USPTO and requested to forward the letter to their security dept if they have one. |

Please note the official United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) is located in Alexandria, Virginia. There is only one PTO office in the U.S. that handles all U.S. intellectual property filings and they are located in Alexandria, VA (www.uspto.gov). The PTO would never solicit. It is mostly up to the trademark registration owner to monitor their upcoming renewals, etc. Beware of these type of solicitations which can appear to be very official. If you are a registration owner, you can check on the status of your registration |

Yes, I was suspicious also.Thank you for the information. It does look official! Beware! |

We also received the "official looking" solicitation. I am seeking the telephone number of the scam artist in hopes that publishing same will result in a more tactful approach by the con-artists. Has anyone been successful in obtaining an actual telephone number? |

I just called the actual USPTO and they said to fax copies of misleading mailings like this one to 571-273-9250. They said they were working with the Justice Dept. to look into it. |

Thanks so much for this. I almost fell for it too. I was confused since I already paid for it upon registration. They need to stop these guys. |

We got the phoney mailing too. The envelope looked "phishy" with a statement about our trademark, it was handled as "presorted standard" mail, and showed a metered rate of 19 cents. The envelope also warned you that the contents were important and should be opened immediately. USPTO normally will contact you via e-mail. |

The first scam giveaway was the postage, the USPTO doesn't have to pay postage and most of their communication is via email. I just received the brown envelope yesterday. i knew I paid the trademark fee in full already.Using the US mail to defraud is very serious. I think I will report this outfit to the USPO. |

I found the phone number for trademark registration and monitoring office 355 so grand ave. room 2450 Los Angeles ca. 90071-9509. The person who answered the phone said his name is Gary Jordan and his phone number is 213-705-0017. Call him up and give him a piece of your mind. He said he is a legit service. I told him his marketing tactics are deceptive and should be fraudulent. The number was hard to find, post his number on blogs everywhere so people can call him and complain. |
