On Wednesday August 10th I took my car to Tread Quarters on Folly Rd. to have them check my car because I had been having some trouble with my ac going out and it running hot when I would be at a complete stop. I ask them to check my water pump and thermostat on advice I had receive from a certified mechanic that I know. The diagnosis was just that, so I had them replace those two things along with an oil change because I was leaving the next day to drive to my hometown in North Carolina, which is approximately 275 miles away. I paid for the service totaling $506, I thought it was a little too expensive I showed it to my friend that is a certified mechanic and he said that they should not have charged me for a coolant flush because when you remove the water pump the coolant automatically flushes from my car, this is the first complaint that I have. The second is as I was driving to North Carolina the next night my car broke down at exit 159 on Highway 26W at approximately 1 am, I was able to get my car to the Pilot truck stop called my insurance company and had my car towed to The Super 8 motel in Orangeburg, rented a room, which cost me an additional $85 and next morning had it towed to Superior Motors about a mile and a half away. My Mom and Grandmother had to drive from High Point, NC during the night to meet me at the motel because I didn’t have the money to get my car fixed; I had just paid out over $500 to get it fixed to come home. So my grandmother paid to get it fixed costing another $310, the damage that was done to my car was my idler pulley was broken along with the belt that ran it, the belt was completely shredded and I was told by the mechanic that there was no way that I cause this damage the only way that it could have been caused was by the person that worked on my car. Well the day I got the water pump fixed the mechanic stopped me as I was leaving and said "Hold on a second I think I left my wrench in your engine†I popped the hood and he checked and nothing. When I got back to Charleston I went into the shop to ask the mechanic if he found his wrench he said yes and I ask him then what could have damaged my belt and pulley like that, the mechanic told me that it was my fault that wear and tear can cause this but what he didn’t know is that I’m not stupid and I got 2 more opinions from certified mechanics stating that there is no way that I caused this damage that the belt has to be removed in order to replace my water pump and then put back on and when it was put back on it was not done correctly. When I called the shop after finding this information out I spoke to the manager of the business and told him who I was and before I could get anything out he hung up on me. I have kept the shredded belt and broken pulley for evidence. I have not gone back to Tread Quarters since he lied to me and the manager hung up on me. I am in the process of contacting the SCDCA office, the Better Business Bureau and also a Lawyer. I have also contacted their corporate headquarters and lodged a complaint that way as well. |
