Todd Robinson and Bonaventure Its Not Such a Wonderful Day!!!!! Sparks, Nevada |

If you call Bonaventure they will say "Its a wonderful day at Bonaventure how can we help you?" Well, the truth is that if you are a resident or employee then it not such a wonderful day after all!! I want to tell possible customers and employees to PLEASE, BEWARE!!! If you are a possible customer there are just a few things I feel are the most important that you should know about Bonaventure (although the list is very long): 1) The food is HORRIBLE!!! They have a menu of about 8 items they serve everyday but they also have three specials daily. The thing is the last two specials are the same thing for the WHOLE WEEK!! So they make a lot of it and feed you leftovers until something new is served (DISGUSTING!!!). The first special is picked by someone at the home office who looks at a website called www.allrecipes.com, so the residents get very little say about what they get to eat. The food quality is also horrible because the only give the chef $3.25 per resident per day the feed everyone. The kitchen is also under staff, so preparation is rushed, make the food horrible as well. Several times has the State of Nevada threatened to fail the kitchen for sanitation reasons i.e. blood from meats on the floor and rotten food in the refrigerator. 2)There are activities at Bonaventure but if you are living in the assisted living unit, there isn't much for you to do if you have mild to moderate memory problem. The activities are things like Wii Bowling and card games, which are great, but they normally don't have anyone to assist with or even remind residents of these activities because most of the time the activities director and his assistant is out of the building running errands for upper management or take residents to their appointment. The other activities are more for our independent living resident like word challenges and mahjong, which are activities they do by themselves. And if you like outings, they once wanted to take the residents to Mustang Ranch, so you be the judge on that. 3)The care residents get is sometimes poor. There are a couple of reasons for that: A) they under staff the assisted living unit. As of right now they have one caregiver and one Med tech to care for 30 plus residents and they will not allow another caregiver until the censes reach 44 residents, which is ridiculous and B) some of the staff have no experience in an environment such as this and get very little training. 4)Expect everything to be a chargeable fee. If you want your bed made everyday or your laundry done (which more often then not you will have something lost), that's a charge. If you have a certain amounts of falls in a month or your condition changes, that's a charge. If you need help dressing or showering, that's a charge. If you cannot give yourself medications or need reminders for meals, that's a charge. All of these things are not included in the rent of your apartment, which is over priced anyway. My point is that they are way over price and the residents start to become neglected because they can afford the charges. and Last but not least 5)The whole building has two housekeeper to clean over 90 rooms and common ares five days a week and they don't do the best job because they are also under staffed and over worked. Frequently, I have seen urine and fecal matter on floors, walls and door knobs. Also the trash is only taken out once a day and can get pretty gross. Now, if after reading this, you still think Bonaventure is a good fit for you, make sure you get everything in writing and don't sign a contact unless you get all your charges for everything you'll need. Management has a habit of make promises they won't keep, so write everything down. If you are a possible employee, you should also BEWARE. 1)Bonaventure has a turnover rate of about 275%. 2)You will be under trained, under paid, over worked and unappreciated by your superiors. 3)You will be expected to work all shifts and in both units, and sometimes your schedule will change without you knowing until the day you have to work. 4)The management is abusive and has often lied about write-ups to have you fired. 5)And everyone loves to gossip and talk badly about each other, including upper management. 6)There is a no fraternizing policy at Bonaventure but that doesn't matter. The managers date all the time. 7)There will be times management will want you to do things that are not allowed by the State of Nevada . 8)They tell the employees to take their breaks, but they rarely do because there is so much work that sometimes there is not enough time 9)The Home Office doesn't keep track of your raises so you have to remind them. 10)All employees are expected to serve food as well as care for the residents. As I said, it isn't always wonderful day at Bonaventure. |
