My wife and I purchased a Timeshare/Vacation package on Friday, December 10, 2010. We attended a seminar and were shown around the resort, the spa, restaurants, pools and floor plans. We were escorted to a room where pen was put to paper and the sales presentation began. After being pitched to for over four hours, we put a $4,270.74 down payment on a Timeshare/Vacation package at Sunset Group/Equestrian Center Club. Timeshare/Vacation package total is $9,395. Since we have returned home on Monday, December 13, 2010 and looking over our budget and bills we have decided that we did not make the correct decision when we purchased a Timeshare/Vacation package at Sunset Group/Equestrian Center Club. We feel we were subjected to a very high-pressure sale.

On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, via phone conversation, we spoke with our appointed Sunset Group Legal Officer, Mrs. Adriana Lecuona, and she told us if we wanted to cancel our Timeshare/Vacation package we would need to send a cancellation letter, via email, and she would start the cancellation procedures. Once off the phone we emailed Mrs. Lecuona and no action was taken or a reply to our emails. On Wednesday, December 15, 2010 we spoke with Mrs. Leucona again and asked her if she had received my cancellation letter and she replied "You need to send your cancellation letter certified mail. We told her just the day before she told us to send via email and Mrs. Leucona stated she never told us to send via email but certified mail. She stated, since we have done some research and have contacted PROFECO we needed to abide by PROFECO cancellation rules. She told us to send the cancellation letter to the address on her business card and send it to Equestrian Center Club. Once off the phone with Mrs. Lecuona, my wife and I mailed our cancellation letter via registered mail. While at the post office we were told that certified mail cannot be sent/mailed to Mexico.

Our inclination was to think about the offer, contact our credit union and do further research on this potential purchase. We didn't have convenient internet access for research or US phone access to contact our credit union for advisement. We were told that we had to make a decision as we would not be able to execute the contract at a later date without travelling back to Mexico to sign the necessary paperwork. We were also on vacation and feel that we were not in a position to make a sound financial decision such as a Timeshare/Vacation package purchase. My wife and I are young and are enjoying our lives together as a married couple. We look forward to the decades we have together in the future. We try to make decisions that best interest us, our families and future generations. Many of these decisions are financially-based. After giving it much thought, we have agreed that purchasing a Timeshare/Vacation package at Sunset Group/Equestrian Center Club was not the correct decision for us. We have never experienced a resort vacation and both feel that we were taken advantage of in a very high pressure Timeshare/Vacation package sales presentation. Despite being convinced otherwise, we do not have the disposable income nor the inclination to frivolously pay for a Timeshare/Vacation Package. We wish we did, but we're regular people; we have a mortgage, student loans, child in college and regular recurring bills that take precedence. We both do not want to look back at our vacation in Cancun Mexico and our stay at the wonderful Sunset Group/Equestrian Center Club resort in a negative light so it is here that I ask to have cancelled contract number 31-15-466 for one Timeshare/Vacation package at Sunset Group/Equestrian Center Club.

My wife and I are trying to cancel this Timeshare/Vacation package in a timely fashion and send all the appropriate documentation before our 5 business days of rescind has expired. We were told by our Sales rep (Angelica) and Mrs Lecuona that we had 5 business days to cancel our Timeshare/Vacation package. Furthermore, Mrs Lecuona stated Mexico business days are Monday through Friday.

Besides being scammed into a timeshare you could not afford, did you enjoy your vacation there? My husband and I bought the "too good to be true" vacation package for ourselves and 2 kids. It is all inclusive and we have to pay for our flights. We are prepared for the timeshare sales pitch and are just going to refuse, as we too can not afford the timeshare. But we still think the vacation package is a good investment. Do you agree with this? If you had said no to the timeshare, would you have had a good vacation?

My husband and I took a holiday there on December 12, 2010. We first stayed at the Ocean Spa with a view of the lagoon. Its ok, the place has nice grounds, its small, the people were nice, the lobby was pretty but the rooms felt old and tired. We stayed one night and were on tour by breakfast. When we bought the time share (yes we bought, us too, never on holiday, convinced we had more money than we did yada yada yada) anyhow we were then whisked away to a lovely massive double suite room with 2 kitchens and just lovely, and had an awesome holiday at the Sunset Lagoon. If we had not bought the time share we would have stayed at the first place and had a good time none the less, Cancun is what you make it.
There is a shuttle bus you would take to the Sunset Lagoon resort and from there take the shuttle boat across the lake and swim in the ocean or swim in the pool at the resort.
BUT they had promised us 40% discount coupons on "all off site activities" as a promo which really grabbed my attention. Turned out that was not true and even though we brought the creme of la creme packages I still had to fight to get a descent discount on 1 off site activity. That really bugged me. So to answer your question, ya sure, I still think you guys can have a great holiday. Just be prepared for the sales pitch and pressure. Walk away if you can, just walk away.

My husband and I bought a Sunset Group timeshare about 6 years ago and were lied to about receiving a refund for each year we did not use the timeshare. That was the one main reason we bought. They also told us the maintenance fees would not go up. Another lie amongst several others I will not go into. These people are pirates, thieves and liars. It seems like this is a very common problem in Mexico. My wife & i bought into a Royal Elite Timeshare in Playa del Carmen. We stayed in sandos caracol resort & signed contract for royal elite. we've found out in the last few months that availiablity of resorts that we require are very limited (sales person shown us extensive range of hotels). flight deals are no better than booking myself. we enquired to stay lanzarote sandos dec 2012 the ai rate is in total $1900 for the week. i feel that this is going to be costly in the long run, not the ideal deal that was sold to us. I'm in the process of calling the BBB and PROFECO and seeing what they can do. Possibly the attorney General also!!
