STAR REBATES, INC Rebate scam - misleading, false advertising Seattle, Washington |
24th of May, 2011 by User396578 |
I just filed this complaint with the BBB... Star Rebates is WAY behind on issuing the rebates that I was promised. I have called and emailed them multiple times. They NEVER return emails or calls. I was able to talk to someone ONE time because Elite was able to patch me through. This company is a fraud in my opinion because of false advertising and they do NOT process rebate claims the way it was advertised and promised when the ADT reps came and 'sold' me on a security system. I wonder if ADT/Elite should shoulder part of the blame. Did they know that this company was completely incompetent before they contracted with them to provide this service? I am very disappointed, angry and feel much taken advantage of. Somebody needs to figure out a way to get this company to live up to its claims to its customers. I do not have the funds to continue paying for the ADT monthly service unless I get the promised rebates from Star Rebates, INC. I am in a real bind because if I cancel with ADT/Elite then I will get charged an astronomical cancelation fee. This is really ridiculous and appalling that they are preying on unsuspecting people. Please let me know if anybody decides to pursue a class action lawsuit. Somebody needs to hold them accountable. 1. I want them to live up to their claims. 2. I want ALL of my pending rebates returned to me immediately. 3. I want all of my future rebates returned to me within 30 days of submission. |

I agree. Received the same "deal" with same results. Been filing grocery receipts since December '10 with no rebate whatsoever. I do get replies per email from their "customer service" site, but just a lot of verbage with no check forthcoming. After six months, i believe it is a full fledged scam, and all they really want is access to my credit card account, which I did not provide, and I'm sure I'll never see a check or cash card as a result of my efforts. Of course, they're not listed on the BBB. They wouldn't last long and could never be a member in good standing. From now on, I'll save my stamps and time. |

After a complaint to the BBB and to the Attorney General's Office I received a phone call from "the manager" for the corporate office of Star Rebates in Burnaby, BC. He assured me that they would get my credits sent to me right away. Although I had signed up for the credit to be applied to my credit card, I received to $40.00 gift cards in the mail about 2 weeks later. In order to activate the cards for use, you require a 4 digit code that you are supposed to retrieve from the 'notes' section on your account on the Star Rebates website. There is no code. Now I have two gift cards that I can't use. The Attorney General's office is supposed to be calling me back sometime soon regarding the complaint. I'm hoping we'll see a class action lawsuit shortly. This company needs to be shut down. It is definitely a scam. Elite Security (an ADT dealer) also needs to take some responsibility for this. I would not have purchased their security system if there wasn't a rebate. The Elite salesperson told me it was a state rebate. I should have known better.
I'm not filing anymore receipts at the moment; however, I am saving them in the event there is a lawsuit |

I have been recording grocery purchases and mailing in the rebate forms since last August. I received rebates the first couple months, and that was it. After that, the status is "Pending." I too have called and emailed with little response. Once, several months ago, I was told they are behind due to the popularity of the program and to continue filing the info. and eventually they would get caught up and issue the rebates. I am very concerned that they are not following through on the promised rebates. I would like to hear about any action taken against this company. Thank you. |

My story is the same as Kenandrews8. My first month was Sept 2010. I received the $20.00 gift card and did receive the 4 digit code. But nothing since then. I have received the same response to my emails. I would like to contact the Attorney Generals office. Any assistance anyone can give would be appreciated. I am also interested in a class action suit. Does any one know if the manager, Mr Jonathan Drummond really exists??? |

Me and my husband were also sold on a security system and promised rebates that would leave us paying a small monthly payment. However we were never really told how to go about getting the rebates. So after I realized our account was being charged $50 a month I decided to look into getting the rebatesstarted and couldn't find any information about it online except for several scam reports. This is very disappointing and now we are stuck paying this high monthly charge for the next three years! From the sound of it, the security isn't rated very highly either. So who is going to file?? |
