Being a professional Cosmetologist I was asked to an interview at Smartstyle Beauty salon and was told the place couldn't afford regular wages yet because they were in trouble. The supervisor didn't state what was going on but was looking for a manager. She felt I wasn't ready and started me as a beautician with a wage of $7.55 hr or commission of 40%. I signed the paper stating it. Then I get my check and I'm getting $7.25 hr. or 38% commission. This is the lowest wage I have ever had in the beauty business where I have worked as a beautician for 19 years. I was teaching other stylists some of what I had learned from my experience and showed them how to create a better clientelle. Don't just find out what hair style they want, and sell products to them. If they start a conversation go with it and make a friend. Just don't leave the building with them. When I got there, stylists were telling their patrons that they couldn't talk about personal matters with clients. Just products and hair. The supervisor ended up adding days that I was late, and added days that I had called in, and ended up firing me because I complained i wasn't making enough money because I had to drive 20 miles to get there one way. It was taking too much gas, and she also lied and said I ruined someones hair, and I did not. They stole money from me I feel.
