My main pipe to the sewer was backing up in July 2010. I called my plumber who brought in Dan Avshalomov of Sewer Fitters. He had a camera and said the line was in bad shape. It could not be fixed with the liner alone. At that point, he should have had me call in another company as you will see. He excavated and seemed to be having a rather difficult time of it but I obviously do not know anything about this type of operation. When the excavation was over, he said he would then put in the liner for another $3,000 which would have a fifty year guarantee. We paid him $7500 plus we had the cost of new sod and sprinkler repair. In November, the water backed up again when I did laundry. I called Dan and he sent the original person from the plumbing company to give it a quick fix. This lasted for a few weeks but kept recurring and each time I would call Peter, he would come over, and Dan would pay him. Dan never answered my calls directly. Through Peter, I learned Dan was waiting for a piece of equipment so he wouldn't have to excavate again. I trusted him and all this time was taking my clothes to the dry cleaners and going to the laundromat to avoid using my washing machine too much. Finally in MAY, the water started to back up if we even turned on a faucet. I called Dan and finally after all this time, he called me back. He sent Peter and promised to call me the following week and finally fix it. He called, made an appointment and cancelled. Finally he showed up. He wasn't working too long and seemed to be having some trouble when a Nassau County Construction Inspector showed up. It seems Dan did not have a permit to excavate. The inspector - I have his card and information - told him he would let him finish but he would have to get a permit the next day and would be fined. The inspector also stayed to watch over the job which was not successful. At the end of the day, Dan told the inspector he could not finish the job and wanted to know if he knew of a company who could finish it and he would take full responsibility. They took care of the arrangements, my husband and I spent the night at a hotel, and the next morning we were all back. Dan unfortunately was very upset because "his mother was in the hospital"? and he disappeared. My husband and I ended up writing a check for $10,800 to the new company (the inspector made them remove all the liners which involved breaking up cement, etc. so it was now a much bigger job) plus a fee of over $500 to the county which Dan was suppose to pay. I spoke to Dan on the phone on Monday (this was Friday) and he said he would get the money together and give it to me by the end of the week and felt terrible. He hasn't answered his phone since and it is now 2:29 am Sunday but I can't sleep. I knew there were people like this in the world but it took 64 years for me to actually meet one. The fact that a thirty year old stole from senior citizens only makes it more disgusting. |
