Sears Roebuck & Co. Deceptive Internet Advertising San Jose, California
26th of Dec, 2011 by User822225
I understand Sears is in dire shape and closing over 100 stores this year. Apparently their desperation has caused them to abandon the fair business practices that they were known for for generations. Yesterday I saw "Goodyear Assurance Comfortred Touring Tires size 225/60R16", Sears item 0958889200 advertised on the Sears website for $106.40, free instore pick up. When I visted my local store in San Jose I was informed the price of the
tires was $131.09. After going back and forth with the manager I was told that I could order the tires from the internet for the $106.40 for instore pickup. I found out that when you got to the final stages of checkout, and not before, of attempting to
order four tires online for instore pick up that a charge of $98.76 was added for "Shipping and Handling" which seems like a strange charge to add for instore pickup. Not having a lot of time I did buy four tires for the $131.09 price. I noticed that other tires which are not on sale do not list the "Shipping and Handling Charge". So effectively there is no sale, just a deceptive ad.
