I contacted Ms. Ayres about a pup listed in a Nickel add paper. I was told that she was available and we got talking. I explained that I was looking for a younger pup, a red female Doberman Pinscher. She said she had one but could not sell her because she had grown fond of her, Amber. I was told in minutes that she might sell her if her husband said it was alright to do so. She asked if $1200 was a price that I could pay. I said that I had looked at a $1500 pup and she told me she'd call me back and ask her husband in the mean time.
Within the hour she called saying her husband wanted her to sell Amber because they didn't need 3 Doberman's but the price had gone up to $1400. She also said that she had an all black that was Amber's littermate but she had lost an eye from an injury/infection and her selling cost was $900 if I was interested. I looked at her last add for these pups and they're price was only $600. She had indeed doubled the price on me!
I should have walked away then but in hearing that Amber was used to walking on leash, used a doggie door and slept inside in a nursery and used a crate I was intrigued. That was just what I wanted to hear for training a pup in late fall. We agreed on $1250. She told me that I would need to send a deposit and she would not sell her to anyone else.
In receiving Amber, it was obvious within a day, the pup had no training in any area what so ever as I had been lead to believe. She was so excitable whenever she saw me that she would go through my legs and tripped me causing a fall on the frozen hard ground. That and jumping up on me constantly and almost knocking me down was the last straw. I have dog training experience and sensed Amber had become overly excitable because she had been confined in Rita's kennel and not ever allowed out to run. Amber didn't even know what grass was. She would not eliminate in the yard until after 12 hours she finally figured it out. Rita told me Amber was used to playing in a grassy fenced yard! That was just another untruthful statement.
Our agreement stated that I could return Amber within 30 days. I did so in 2! I drove to Valley because we had met in another town when I got her initially and I wanted to see the kennels to see if my suspicions were correct. I was disgusted with what I saw upon reach Ms. Ayers residence. What I saw was terrible neglect, numerous breeding bitches and litters in dirty, way too cramped quarters. I knew instantly that I was not going to accept another of Ms. Ayers puppies. Yes, this was what I dreaded finding out; I'd paid $1250 through the nose to a puppy-mill breeder.
In leaving Amber I immediately told Rita that I did not want a replacement pup but my money refunded and she agreed to a full refund.
That was short lived after she spoke to some friends who said she didn't owe me anything. She said in good conscience that she would pay me 1/2 my money. I agreed to 1/2 within a certain time period and that came and went. Then we agreed verbally to $400 more. I have yet to see anything more, thus Ripoff report to spare anyone else buying from this puppy mill breeder; her name online is Schaffenhaus shepherds but I saw Poodles, Dobes, Poms. and Sheperds just to name what I could see driving in. My husband heard dogs coming from the acreage that we did not access.
I would not advise anyone to buy from this person. She is not qualified and does not have the funds to be breeding dogs and properly take care of several dozen dogs. She is not the type of person who can't be trusted to her word. To prove this, the minute I returned Amber she immediately put her up for sale. So much for growing fond of her and only selling her to me!
Please ask questions, and go see your breeder before purchasing your pet. It is the only way to see where your dog is coming from the what they've experienced. |
