"Ron" advertised a car on craigslist. When we came to see it, he said everything was fine, he used the car himself for months driving back and forth to Orlando and no longer needed it. He had a whole story about what he did for a living, setting up Alcohol and Tobacco programs in high schools. What a stand up guy. We bought the car for what seemed a reasonable price, and as soon as we got it home, we started having problems. It was leaking from 10 different spots underneath, a day later the power steering started having issues. Three days later, the car wouldn't catch into reverse. Good lord. Took it to a mechanic, and was horrified to learn that it needed a whole new transmission. We paid $2,900 for the car and the shop told us it was worth MAYBE $500. We have to pay $2,000 for a new transmission now. The mechanic told us there was no way this car needed a new transmission as a result of the four days we owned it. This was an on-going problem. I searched google for RON's phone number, and lo-and-behold, I found listings for MANY other cars, written the same way the ad was written for our car. This guy RIPS PEOPLE OFF for a living. He's a real piece of work. We tried to call him back and he couldn't care less. Of course. I was not really expecting anything out of it. We are a young family, he looked my 6 month old in the face when he sold us this car. $3,000 is a lot of money for us and we're in a real sad place right now because of it. Karma is a BITCH and I just know he will get his.
