Rental Management Services, aka RMS Management, and Reed Schumacher, hateful individual, have taken double rent from tenants after making repeated promises of not cashing their late checks. The check was cashed anyway, after an Oregon Army Reserve member, who is Hispanic, made every effort and paid the late fee in cash. No effort was made to correct the error, and a representative of the Oregon Attorney General's office stated that this was clearly illegal. The reserve member chose not to pursue the issue because of personal reasons. Lee X., the owner of a delapidated building at 3200 SW Dolph Court, in Portland, made no effort to mitigate repeated plumbing problems which filled the basement with water for several months, causing untold mold damage to multiple units, none of which was abated, until one tenant had her second miscarriage. Then they painted over the mold once, first with oil-based paint which made the mold grow more aggressively, then once with anti-mold paint. And only in her apartment. The entire condition of the building is inferior. In addition, RMS has moved multiple drug abusers into the building, including one meth addict who had to be removed forcibly by police. I had to make the call as he was violently attacking his girlfriend in the parking lot and in their apartment below me. I also found drug syringes on premises, and another tenant found two in the washing machine. The building also had rats, about which they did next to nothing: they put a box of rat poison on the steps leading to the basement. RMS views its legal duty as protecting Lee X., the utterly incompetent owner/"manager" of the building from his inability to fix anything properly. Then, after I finally had had more than any sane person could take, these liars, thieves, and incompetents tried to evict me from an empty clean apartment from which I had moved on time and for which move I had given written notice. They also tried to charge me for late fees, including one "deleted" by Reed Schumacher while I was visiting my cancer-stricken father. During this time they also tried to blame the building's persistent plumbing problems on me while I was 1500 miles away visiting my father, who has since died of lung cancer. They also tried to force me to pay an extra deposit before I moved out, even though it was clearly a case of rent + deposit to move in, and I asserted that it was paid five years prior and was, in fact, used as the last months rent. The eviction, I feel quite certain, was pure vindictive retaliation on the part of Reed Schumacher, an amoral, non-rational human being with a heart made of frozen lead. Do not ever do business with these people if you want to live in a decent building with decent people and lead a decent life. |
