Renaissance Malibu Holistic
Renaissance Malibu Holistic Wellness Center How I was ripped off and defrauded by Renaissance Malibu Malibu, California
10th of Apr, 2011 by User342777
I have just read with much interest the scam reports for Renaissance Malibu. Here is my story: In November 2008 my partner was in need of rehab. We contacted Renaissance Malibu, and thus commenced communications with David Kaiser (former employee). Quite simply he sold the deal to me that I would pay $30,000 up front for my partner to be admitted for one month, and that very soon I would be reimbursed the major part of this through the health insurance pay out. I still have copies of all contracts between myself and Renaissance Malibu that testify to the $30,000 cost for 30 days stay, and an additional $3,250 for 'doctor's fees'. Long story short, when I could get through to David Kaiser on the phone (all the while I am serving with US forces in the Persian Gulf), I was given just another excuse and promises that the reimbursement was just around the corner etc. This carried on through 2009. In mid 2010 I contacted Renaissance Malibu again. This time I communicated with Mike Smith. Mike admitted to me that at the time of my contract with Renaissance, they did NOT in fact take health insurance! Therefore there could NEVER have been a reimbursement. I have NEVER even received a receipt for the money I paid Renaissance $34,250 total. Despite the promises of Mike Smith that he would supply me with a receipt, this has never happened. Do you smell a rat? In August 2010 I was going over my bank records, and the contract with Malibu again - and I discovered that I had in fact paid $4,250 for the 'doctor's fees' which were in fact $3,250! So what happened to the extra $1,000? Is this why they would never supply a receipt? Who kept that money? This is THEFT! During 2010 I contacted Los Angeles BBB and posted my complaint on their website
Malibu responded and promised to supply me a receipt - it never happened. Furthermore they never responded to the charge that they had ripped me off for an extra $1,000. In November 2010 I contacted LA BBB again. I think they must have contacted Renaissance Malibu as BBB soon informed me that the new Executive Director of Renaissance, Dennis Henning, wanted me to contact him regarding the case. I phoned him, and he agreed that for David Kaiser to promise me reimbursement was unethical. I have all these phone calls saved as MP3s... He promised me he would investigate the case, and I sent him copies of contracts and the email chain between me and David kaiser and Mike Smith. Dennis Henning never had the decency to call me back or respond to my emails. I finally caught Dennis Henning on the phone in March 2011. he was very uncomfortable on the phone and immediately passed the buck telling me that Lisa Bruno would be looking into my case. I emailed Lisa March 31 - and have heard nothing back. Basically the staff at Renaissance have all LIED to me. Had they been honest and told me they did not accept health insurance I would NEVER have paid over $30,000 to them. They have NEVER fulfilled their promises of supplying a receipt for money paid. They have failed to address the missing $1,000. They completely DEFRAUDED me. Their staff haven't even the courage to contact me or be honest. Maybe I should create a web page and post copies of my contract, the complete email chain between various staff members and me, and also every saved MP3 recording of the phone calls? Therefore it was with considerable interest I read the 'rebuttals' from Renaissance staff on rip=off report this evening. They have an 'impeccable record' do they? Not if you check them out on Trust Link!! On Trust Link they only have a grade B - and that is due to my complaint against them! Renaissance Malibu screwed me totally; they have been devious and dishonest throughout. Here is the BBB complaint posted below for your edification: Complaint ID: 98524267 Complaint Classification: Complaint Description - Posted 5/21/2010
Consumer states he paid $33,647.09 in November 2008 for his partner's rehabilitation. He was also assured by Renaissance that SAG insurance would reimburse him in due course. To date he has received NOTHING. He frequently email them to request a situational update (phone calls go unanswered). He has received no credible response from them, only statements that they are looking into it. Regardless of anything else the financial contract was between them and him and so they should inform him. They have never even supplied him with a receipt for the money! despite him asking for one--surely this is mandatory. I trusted Renaissance Malibu, believed their assurances we would be paid back. He feels he has been scammed.
Complaint Summary
Consumer states he paid $33,3647.09 for rehabilitation and was assured he would be paid back.
Resolution Sought
Provide a receipt for the money he paid them. Be honest and straight forward with him and inform him of what is going on. Explanation why David Kaiser assured him he would sort eveything out and would be repaid. Company's Response Company's Initial Response - Posted 05/31/2010 We are a facility that requests our clients to pay for services at the time they are rendered. We do assist clients with reviewing their health plan for benefits and if they have coverage we do a courteous filing of the claim. We communicate with our clients directly that even if they do have benefits there is never a guarantee of payment until the claim has actually been pre-certified & paid. This is our standard communication as all insurance companies always give a disclaimer that benefits are never guaranteed until payment is made as well. We assure clients that we will do whatever we can do to assist them in getting reimbursed, but we cannot or do not guarantee they will be reimbursed. Additionally, our communication is directly with the client as it is their insurance plan. Any specific detailed communication would have been with the client for which they were aware. A payer of services does not give them access to privileged insurance information. We do find a record of payment from consumer and will be happy to provide him with a receipt. Any information regarding the insurance has been communicated with client directly.Initial Response SummaryWe never gaurantee that insurance will reimburse client, only that we will assist them in doing the best we can provided the benefit is available. Consumer's Rebuttal Consumer's Rebuttal - Posted 06/04/2010 REVISISED 8/24/10: Company still fails to provide receipt despite previous rebuttal provided on 6/4/10 I paid $1000 too much. This has not been addressed. In Nov 2008 I paid for a colleague to undergo rehab. At the time Malibu always promised to do everything to get the insurance to repay me. However, in Nov 2008 when I paid 34,250 the company did NOT take insurance. Therefore I could NEVER have been reimbursed - I was MISLEAD & DE-FRAUDED. Provide a receipt for moneys paid as promised and as is standard business practice. Explain why they took $4,250 off me for $3,250 doctor's fees and NEVER repaid me the extra $1000. Explain why they never told me in Nov 2008 that they DID NOT take SAG insurance and that I could NEVER expect to be repaid once I had paid Malibu. REVISED 3/14/11 Notwithstanding the fraud perpetrated on me whereby they assured me I would get the insurance payout for over $30,000 when they did NOT even take insurance cover and KNEW I would never be repaid, but there is the much more simple issue that they took $4,250 off me for doctors fees invoiced at $3,250. Please note that in FOUR MONTHS Dennis Henning NEVER contacted me even once. Company's Final Response Company's Final Response - None Posted
