I was about to complete a deal and almost bought a new truck at Pruitt Ford. I spoke to a sales associate named Richard Lightner, and we shook hands and agreed on the price of a new truck. I agreed on the price of 25,700.. He came back and told me the deal was good to go and now all we had to do is talk to the Finance Manager and complete the deal. He led me to the finance manager's room in the back and I sat down and he started making small talk with me. I asked him if we could please just complete the deal. He said Okay. Then he began typing on his keyboard for what seemed like 10 minutes. He then said Okay "we're ready to go! He showed me the papers to sign and I about had a fit! I said that ain't what I agreed to! He said well those are service fees and the cost of the service warranty and Gap Insurance. I said I don't want none of that. He said that the bank wouldn't approve of my loan without it. I said I can't believe this! Let me talk to the sales manager. Then a man named Jay Black came back there and assured me I was getting a good deal and said that I'll be satisfied with this truck! I said No! I didn't agree to raising the price $5,000 dollars more than what I shook hands on! I got up to walk out and Richard Lightner asked if he could show me another vehicle, and I said I think I've seen enough here! I thought that was the end of that, but then about two weeks later, I got all kind of letters in the mail saying that I had been declined for a loan through Wells Fargo, Bank of America and other banks. I called and asked what this was about cause I never signed up for a loan with them and they asked me for a number on the letter. I gave them the number and they said Oh did you visit a car dealership in Burkburnett Texas? I said well yes. They said well that's what this was about. I asked them how many times they ran my credit through them.. They said just once through us, but other banks may have been contacted. I got about nine different letters in the mail saying that I been declined. I found out that Pruitt Ford ran my credit through about 10 different banks!! I ordered a credit report through Equifax and discovered my credit score was now 610!! It was 730 last time I checked before they ran my credit. Richard Lightner told me when he ran my credit that it wouldn't affect my credit score! He lied to me!! Now because of so many inquiries on my credit report, I can't even talk to anyone else about getting a truck financed!! Don't be fooled by the crosses and Holy Bibles on the desk of a car salesman. They'll lie to you and then laugh about it when you walk out of the dealership!!
