They came knocking at my door today and tried to con me into switching from Peco to Spark as my electricity supplier. The guy ( and he was a very young guy with a very hard sell and wouldn't take no for an answer) tried to make me think that Peco had sent him. It is actually a long story as he had to get me on the phone to sign up by calling his office from my front door. He said they would ask me 5 questions to verify my account and that I would not be able to ask him to explain any of them> He wanted to go through the questions with me and as we did he wrote the answers that he wanted me to give. Well that was it for me. He was very reluctant to go without closing the deal and told me that if I did not switch to Spark my Peco bill was guaranteed to go up $47.00 a month within the next 2 months.
I finally got rid of him (he left his "card", which he had to write his name and # on) and Googled "Spark Energy scam" and voila. |

They were in Sterling, Illinois today. Not Peco here, but ComEd. He tried to make me believe he was from ComEd, but his Spark Energy shirt was hard to ignore. He had a sample bill with three charges that would supposedly decrease greatly if I switched to Spark. After showing me the sample bill, he wanted to see one of my billings. I told him I didn't have one. He said, when you get your next bill, please consider changing. After that, he decided to leave me a "Card". He tore a corner from a piece of computer paper and wrote his first name only and a phone number to call if I choose to make changes. He also said ComEd doesn't allow him to give out real "cards". |

First of all I would like to apologize to everyone on this forum. You deserve better treatment then you've been getting. I want to clear up a couple misconceptions and provide you with an opportunity to have the individuals who mistreated you, reprimanded. Let me start off by trying to shed some light on the true nature and reality of our business. Door to door people can be pushy, annoying, irritating and a little over the top at times. Their out there for 8-9 hours a day walking around in the heat all summer and cold all winter. Their trying to earn a living just like anybody else. Does this justify them being pushy or misleading you? absolutely not. However the purpose of this forum is to warn customers of Spark Energy and its potential injustices. I know everyone on this forum is frustrated and feels used and or taken advantage of and for that reason I want to give you the cold hard facts so you can assess the situation fairly with all the accurate information. You can research both Spark and ComEd, their rates and how they compare very easily online. Ive actually taken the liberty to do the research myself and heres the information I was able to find. Comed is the utility provider and due to the law change in IL customers now can choose their own supplier. Its similar to when the government forced the old 'Ma Bell" to split up into pacific bell, bell south, SBC, AT&T etc. This basically says that Comed cannot monpolize energy in IL and Peco in PA. There is 2 portions to your bill. A delivery charge and a supply charge. The delivery charge is what comed charges you to deliver your service, bill you, work on the lines, read the meters etc. The supply charge is what you pay to whomever supplies the actual power, in this case Spark. The real way to identify if Spark is a rip-off or not is to go to their website, type in your zipcode and see what the rate is in your area. I just did it and the current rate for 60608 (Chicago IL) is 6.98cents. The current rate for comed in that exact same zipcode is 7.92cents.
Spark 6.98
Comed 7.92
Spark is cheaper and you can verify that by googling spark enrgy and Commonwealth (comed). Both of their primary websites have options for you to check rates in your local area.
You people deserve better treatment and I am disapointed in the poor representation of our company. I hope I was able to shed some light on the deregrulation and provide sufficient information to make you feel at least a little bit better about the experience you had. Please feel free to contact me directly with future concerns. I am going to leave you with my personal cell phone number because I take your concerns very seriously and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to apologize to you directly and find a way to make things right for you.
Thank you for understanding
Jay Dunn
