PetSmart Selling Sick Pets Everett, Massachusetts

I was ready to get my first hamster, so I went out and bought everything to provide my pet with a good home. I then went to PetSmart in Everett, MA to purchase my new pet. We brought her home and named her Ella. The next few days was hard she had severe diarreah so we took her to the Wakefield animal hospital thinking it was wet tail. When we got into the vets examination room the vet weighed her then checked her mouth. The vet looked at me and said you should take this hamster back for a refund. We were shocked. The vet then explained that she had curled back over grown top teeth, a missing bottom tooth, and an infected jaw that had puss oozing out when the doctor used a wooden stick to squeeze it. It was disguisting. After our vet visit I was upset that I had to give her back to PetSmart because I felt bad for her because of her illness. If I didnt decide to give her back she would need lifelong teeth trimming which is very costly. I felt bad for my Ella because of the suffering she had to go through such as difficult eating and an infected swollen jaw. PetSmart states their animals are vet certified but yet I was sold a sick hamster. They obviously do not provide the right proper treatment for these animals. It reminds me of animal cruelty. Its disguisting what that poor animal went through and not having vet care within PetSmarts care. They should check their animals before selling them. Its very upsetting that I was sold a sick hamster even though they have their own animal hospital/vet in the store. This poor animal shouldnt have been that sick. Who knows how long she has suffered from her infected jaw and over grown teeth and how painfull it must have been. I would like to spread the word that PetSmart needs to do something about selling sick animals and should examin all pets before selling them and provide vetrinary care to all animals.
