Permay Agency Permay Employment Agency New York Permay Employment Agency Rips Off Single Unemployed Mother Flushing, New York |
12th of Dec, 2011 by User655426 |
On October 12, 2011, I paid Permay Employment Agency a $35 registration fee and a deposit or advance fee of $400 (of the $440 Permay requested) specifically for domestic employment in Manhattan that their employee Jessica assured me was immediately available. The subject job was a live-in opportunity for four (4) days a week and paid a salary of $440 per week. On October 12, Permay employee, Jessica promised to call me on Friday, October 14 to arrange an interview after checking my references. I did not hear from Jessica on Friday, October 14, as she promised. I wrote a demand letter on November 9, 2011 to request a refund of my money, and I mailed the letter via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. Permay Agency received the letter over one (1) month ago, and to date, has not rendered the services for which I paid or provided any other value for my Four Hundred Thirty-Five Dollars ($435.). Note that Permay Agency has ignored all ten (10) complaints filed by consumers against the agency with the Better Business Bureau. See http://www.bbb.org/NYC/Business-Reviews/employment-agencies/permay-agency-in-woodside-ny-53582/complaints/ I remain unemployed, and I continue to struggle to support my child. |

Permay Agency has been ripping off people since at least 1997. Why are these people still in business? |

Why would you pay someone for a job?? |
|
|
Here is the New York law regarding fees that agencies are permitted to charge for ACTUAL job placement:
N.Y. Gen. Bus. Law § 185 as it relates to placement in class "A" employment (domestic employment), the gross fee, including the deposit if any, shall not exceed, the following percentages of the first full month's salary or wages:
where no meals or lodging are provided 10%
where one meal per working day is provided 12%
where two meals per working day are provided 14%
where three meals and lodging per working day are provided 18%
As an aside, the owner(s) of this company registered it with the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs as “PERMAY CLEANERS.” |

That's a shame. They have found me my job on two different occasion. They have always been very nice and helpful to me. |

Sis7033,
Why would any sane consumer spend their hard-earned money with as business, like Permay Employment Agency, that has the lowest possible Better Business Bureau Rating (an “F”)? Moreover, the New York Department of Consumer Affairs cited Permay Cleaners for ripping off job seekers.
You are most likely the owner, an employee, or some other person with a stake in this scam.
Good luck with ripping off people.
All, before you spend a dime with any business, go to www.bbb.org to check out that business. When in doubt, go elsewhere.
As an aside, Permay Employment Agency demands CA$H to make certain you have no recourse when they rip you off. |

smartshopper,
I agree you should not pay unless you have all the facts first. what most people are not aware of, is that if pay the better business membership fees you will get a better grade. Now if you are not a member you will get there worse grade because you are not a member which means you did not pay. The bbb is also listed on this website so don't just take my word for it all you need to do is type in bbb in the search bar on the top of this page.
The last part of your comment smartshopper makes no sense, you always have recouse, it's called small claims court.
You sound like a disgruntled ex-employee by the tone of your comment.
Now for the the single mother she should call the agency again and ask them for a job give them five days. Write the persons name down as well as the date and time.
If there is no job after the five days call and ask for a refund, again write down the person name, date and time, that way if they don't send a refund you can take them to small claims court and win. |

I completely agree with smartshopper – you should always do your homework before spending your money, especially cash.
Big Brother sounds like a smart ass.
I know someone who filed a small claims complaint in December 2011 and received a court date for August 2012. When you factor in the fees, STRESS, and time involved in recovering, as in my case, $500, how is that recourse?
By the time you get your “refund, ” it does NOT begin to compensate you for the STRESS and other inconveniences suffered. That is NOT what I call recourse or help.
It’s safer to do business with reputable businesses. I’ve done my research, and Permay Cleaners or Permay Employment Agency has a long track record of ripping off unsuspecting job seekers.
The Better Business Bureau is a good place to start your research. |

Fly909 I to agree with smartshopper not sure how that makes me a smart ass but ok.
What I was doing was offering an option and some advice. Unlike the two of you who just sound angry and offer no solution.
I also did some research Permay clearners or Permay employment agency is NOT ON THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.
The better business bureau is not a good place to start since they are a pay to play site. If you have done your homework you would know that. |

Big Brother (I’m glad you’re not my big brother),
Permay Cleaners, Permay Agency, and Permay Employment Agency are all ONE AND THE SAME. Permay Cleaners have a number of doing business as (d/b/a) names.
You are right that I am angry. I get angry when “businesses” like Permay Cleaners exploit and steel from our most vulnerable job seekers and then call thievery “work” or “business.” What Permay Agency did is no different from snatching a purse. At the end of the day, Permay Employment Agency took money and provided nothing in return.
Please cut and paste the following URL in your browser. It takes you to New York Department of Consumer Affairs license check page:
https://a866-bcportal.nyc.gov/BCPortals/LicenseCheckResults.aspx?EntityName=Permay&LicenseNumber=&Zip=&LicCat=
Note the address and telephone number. They are an exact match of the address and telephone number on Permay Employment Agency’s website (www.permayemployment.org). Does this prove that you’re a smart ass? |

Fly909,
I just went to the Consumer Affairs website, and you're right.

The address and phone number on the Better Business Bureau's report is identical too:
