I purchased a new Palm Harbor home in April 2008 from the Tyler, Texas lot. The salesperson I dealt with tried her best to help me, but the company will not allow the salesperson to honor the warranty. After having the home delivered I noticed water coming in both the front and back doors. I called the saleswoman Jo McBride and told her that the water was coming inside and damaging the door frame as well as the trimming. She advised that she would send a service man out to look at the situation but that I would have to pay $50.00 which I agreed to do after trying to find out why the warranty was not being honored. When the serviceman did arrive he screwed some flashing over each door and left. He did nothing to repair the damaged trimming nor did he fix the framing that had warped due to getting wet.
I told him I was displeased and he stated to me that was all that he was authorized to do. He took my check for $50.00 and drove away. I then called the office back and told them of my displeasure with the entire situation. I also asked them when they were going to come back and re-level the home as had been promised. I was told that they did not do that. I told the salesperson that she herself had told me that they would come back within a year or year and a half to re-level the home and that it was needing it badly. It still has not been releveled. Needless to say noone ever came back and the house that I paid over $50,000 for is nothing but a piece of Palm Harbor junk. I just received a notice in the mail yesterday that Palm Harbor had filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11. That is their gutless way of ripping more people off.
That doesn't surprise me at all considering the way they do business. they should not be allowed to file bankruptcy, but they should certainly have to pay back what they have cheated hard working people out of by selling them inferior homes. They should not ever be allowed to sell another home. It is my belief that the reason they filed bankruptcy was to prevent the consumers from having an avenue to sue thm in court for shoddy business practices.
Here I am now over 2 years later and stuck with a nigtmare that is not even worth 1/3 of what I paid for it.
I do hope that some brilliant attorney gets hold of these complaints and takes the company down for the attrocities they have committed aginst others. Stay away from this company and tell everyone you know to buy from someone else and definately not Palm Harbor Homes.
