Pre-Move I prepared to move office from LA to Texas. Called Ori Van Lines and received Amanda on the phone. Her telemarketing speech was perfect. Told me everything would be smooth. Went through the items in which I clearly stated could be more. She quoted me $2200 for approximately 800 q/ft. I asked if it was more how much would the price be. She was quick to cut me off and say not to worry that they would handle it, the packaging, etc. No charge. All included. The move would take anywhere from 5-8 days. Great!?? Moving Day I get a call indicating move would be scheduled for 9am for the next day. Next day comes, I'm at the moving site preparing everything, I get a call saying it's now 10am, then another call saying 12pm, then another call saying now its 3pm. The movers came at 4pm with only 2 people. I tell the movers there's a lot of stuff. They said not to worry. I tell them all the office equipment is old and I'm not so concerned about it. Only a couple of packages would need to be wrapped carefully like computer monitors and a couple of servers. Movers indicated that it would all be done and take maybe 6 days latest to get to Austin, Texas. Fastforward...it's now 11:45pm not even close to being done. The mover pulls me aside and indicates that the cost is $6600.00!!!!!! and that in order to proceed further that he needs to charge the credit card in 5 minutes before his guy closes. Why so much? Apparently because I had an office on a studio lot and I drive a very nice car that he could "Jack" me. $1600 on packaging materials.....really? $2975 in additional c/f.......really? It said without loading even half of it that I had 700 c.f extra. When it was all loaded I actually had 400 c.f. I did have more than what was quoted but charging $4.25 for additional c.f is ridiculous!!!! and to tell me that at midnight!! I would of given everything to the Goodwill if I would of know that it would of been this expensive and bought all new stuff and had it shipped for free!!! I told him that the premises would be locked down, that I would call my lawyer, and call the police. After a grueling argument and an hr later, the price was lowered to $4400 all while the other guy continued to move everything by himself. Apparently now he can charge the card tomorrow. The move lasted till 3am! Fast forward. I book my airline tickets to Austin so I can be there when the truck arrives to set up new office. It's now hrs before I get on my plane. Still no call from Ori Van Lines. So I call them. Amanda gets on the phone and tells me that 5-8 days was a general estimate once it's loaded. I furiously ask her to locate the shipment. She says she can't locate it. Meanwhile, my assistant is calling and leaving a message with another representative in which 5 minutes later leaves a voice message saying it hasn't even been loaded yet and they are waiting for a truck to go to Austin to be scheduled. Again, lies. I had to cancel my plane ticket ($$) and reschedule with the building management office in Austin, Tx for the arrival of the truck whenever that is going to be. So now I have to wait....... Post Move To be continued..... (I'm sure) |
