On the 18th of November Anthony Shaeffer from the Lease Brokers contacted me through an advertisement that I had placed on Craigslist looking for someone to assume the lease payments on my 2008 VW Jetta. He explained that his company takes over lease payments for clients who are looking to get out of their leases, by re-leasing or selling the cars to interested buyers. I checking out the company with the Better Business Bureau, and researched reviews on the internet. I discovered nothing concerning. Anthony Shaeffer forwarded an agreement outlining both our responsibilities and I agreed to work with them. On November 29th, William Buckley picked up my car from my home, and told me that he would send contract paperwork for the car. He also told me that I should remove my plates and that I could cancel my insurance, since The Lease Brokers would provide insurance. I canceled my insurance and did not renew my registration. On December 27, I received the contract paperwork in the mail and returned it to the Lease Brokers. On January 15th I received a note from Volkswagen credit stating that my car was uninsured and that I needed to insure it. On January 18, I noticed that no car payments had been made on my car and I started to receive calls from my leasing company. On January 20, I called the Lease Brokers to speak with William Buckley and he asked for access to my online Volkswagen account, so that he could make payments. He did so at that time and brought the account current. On January 21, I asked William Buckley to send the contract paperwork. I received no reply. I called the office and left a message. No call back. On February 1, I emailed and called William Buckley to again request the paperwork. The business mailbox was full, and i never received a reply to my email. On February 6 the company voicemail box was still full, and I called the property manager for the space in Englewood that the company is located. The space has been vacated and the manager told me that the business owner wrote a bad check for rent and that he had heard that William Buckley had 'left the country.' I have no idea where my car is, I have no idea how to get it back and I don't think I can report it stolen since I gave the man my keys. Please help.
