I was contacted by Mojave Marketing after applying for a job with them through Monster.com. I tried to do a little snooping around to see what I could find out about the company before I called up to schedule my interview - you know, the usual: company's they've worked with, ad campaigns they were a part of - stuff that would make me stand out in an interview. I found tons of stuff - and by tons I mean 20 search-engine pages of the same bland information posted on hundreds of different sites; not a single bit of information on the company that they hadn't put out there themselves. THEN I noticed that the area code for the phone number they gave me was a California number - odd considering they were supposedly based out of Las Vegas. So I called the BBB and inquired about Mojave Marketing. This is what I found out (as of 6/7/11): 1) The phone number, despite being a California area code, leads to a call center in Minneapolis, MN. 2) Mojave Marketing, Inc - or anyone resembling that name - has never filed for a business license at the address they provided (so even if they are actually there, they're operating illegally). So I called anyway - I know, I know, but what can I say other that my family is hungry and I'm DESPERATE for work. Nobody picked up, there was just a message saying to leave all my information at the beep. They didn't say the business name, and furthermore the message was so mumbled I have to assume it was done intentionally so. Obviously I didn't just hung up - just because I'm desperate for a job doesn't make me a moron. Its flatly disgusting when scammers like Mojave Marketing prey on people trying to provide for their families.
