My son has been playing Xbox Live for five years now, with my permission, as long as his grades were good. He has earned this bit of entertainment and I've allowed my debit card to stay on his account using their "secure server".
Summer of 2010, he complained that he couldn't get into his Xbox Live account. His password no longer worked and he had to create a new username. Three days later, a package of vitamins that I never ordered, arrived on my doorstep. I called the number on the invoice and couldn't even get a live person. I checked my bank account and had been taken to the tune of over $400 in mulitple charges! I was dumbfounded. The next day, I went to my bank, had my account numbers and debit card changed and kept everything for evidence. It finally occured to me that this stemmed from the Xbox Live account hacking and I finally was able to get the proof due to the thieves using a bogus Xbox/Microsoft website address on the invoice.
Two weeks before Christmas, my son's Xbox 360 died. He did without for those two weeks as I had purchased him a new Xbox 360 with a 250g hard drive, a 12 month Xbox Live subscription card, 4,000 Microsoft points and several new games. He was thrilled and hooked it up and started playing Christmas day.
This morning he gets up and asks if he can play online. I told him to go ahead since he would be gone this afternoon. He came flying out of his room and said that his "gamer points and achievements" had been reset to ZERO and his account had been labeled "CHEATER". He called Xbox and was told he was playing with "Modded Equipment". He explained to the man that he had just gotten a new 360 for Christmas and no mods had been performed at all and he had not cheated on anything. He was told there was nothing that could be done and that he would just have to start his profile over again.
Now here's the deal, he's labeled a "CHEATER" and has lost all of his points (that I paid for), all of his achievements and so on. If he creates a new GamerTag, he loses all of the 12 month Xbox Live card that I purchased for him. If he continues to use his current GamerTag, he will not gain any points or achievements.
Microsoft can't even keep your personal/financial information protected. They cheat kids and families. They lie and steal. They underhandedly find ways to make you purchase more points/months so they can make more money and you get less product. The best part of this is that once you put your cc information into an account, you CANNOT remove it. My dead cc that got hacked is STILL in the system under my son's account and CANNOT be removed. Why in the world would they want to hang on to your bank card information?
Xbox Live is the brainchild of a bunch of ripoff artists, Bill Gates and his cronies are in for a rude awakening. I'm gathering other parents who have been ripped off by Microsoft or Xbox Live. I want them to understand that they may have a Monopoly right now, but they won't forever.
It's way past time for us to take action and bring these "big dogs" down for what they're doin. Microsoft's Xbox Live is a RIPOFF!!!
