I was in the process of converting a bedroom into a master bathroom. I performed the demolition, the re-building of the floor, walls and ceiling, had the recessed lighting installed, the water supply plumbing done, the basic sewage lines from the sink, toilet and shower installed. I contracted Mario & Mario Construction to build a 4'x5' shower enclosure with cement floor, diverter for a shower head and a separate hand-held, move and install all plumbing as needed (decided to move the toilet to a different location), build a wall/box to enclose the vent pipe in the corner of the room, build a small linen closet, build out and trim the window to allow shelving to be placed (to hold flower pots), install a vanity, install 12" tile on the floor, install 6" tile from the floor up 4' on the wall and prep the walls for painting. I was to pay for materials. First thing that I feel I need to mention is that the company has very little care for cleanliness. The rug in my family room is pretty much ruined with the ground in dirt and grout in the pile of the carpet. They also sealed the floor and wall tile while there was dirt still on, so yes, the dirt is sealed in as well. They simply threw the large trash/waste pieces (drywall, wood, tile, etc) out my window into my side yard and garden and left me to clean that up. They did not use drop clothes or other protections when they were mudding the drywall, which means there is grout/drywall all over the place (floor tiles, wall tiles, light fixtures). The next thing that I need to mention is the lack of quality of work. On day 3, after pouring the cement for the shower base, and adding river rock as the final floor, I noticed that once side of the shower floor was lower than the drain. I mentioned this to Mario, and he said the drain would be lower. On the last day, the drain hadn't changed and testing the shower left a rather large pool of water that would not drain. The tiles that were cut to surround light switched and outlets are too small, which means that light/outlet covers do not fit in the holes (I will either need to cut the tile myself, or jury-rig a way for the cover to rest on top of the tile). The last thing I would like to mention is the waste of material. I measured out the entire room and calculated that I would need 18 boxes of tile for the wall. In the middle of the job, I was told to buy 6-7 more boxes. I literally had piles and piles of tiles, some that weren't even cut, piled in my family room and outside. There were also good or large pieces of scrap wood that could have been used either in this project, or left aside for me to use somewhere else. Instead, piles of perfect good wood were left outside in my yard in the rain. I know that there was a lot of waste, and a lot of material costs were for nothing. In closing, I would not suggest Mario & Mario Construction. He did give me a low price for the work, but as they say "You get what you pay for". I will be spending many hours to come, and probably several hundred more dollars repairing/finishing what the company did.
