This "law firm" is run by one of the most corrupt individuals in all of South Florida. I was recommended to this attorney by a waitress friend because "she had connections". Sure, I got in trouble, and it was the most serious in my life: driving under the influence. I admit I was in the wrong and I'll never do it again, but I don't deserve the $22,000 bill when I was quoted $5,000. Nor do I deserve having my friends and family called on a daily basis! When I first met with her, I told her my situation. She seemed warm and caring and I admitted what I did... I should have realized when she told me a few stories that this was a bit sketchy. She started by telling me a few times when she had been pulled over for drinking and driving, how she knew people and never got into trouble. She told me that she threw parties for the judges and I'd never see the inside of a courtroom. She sucked me in with these stories and by telling me it wasn't a big deal... unless I was found guilty, then I'd face some serious consequences. Hence, I had to hire her or my life would be over. It started with an initial payment of $5000, with another $2500 to be paid (I didn't have the money at the time). I filled out paperwork, but she needed references so I gave her addresses and phone numbers of my mother and a few friends.. and yes, it included a co-worker (I'm THAT stupid). She put off the case for a few months b/c she wanted "that judge" that she knew. I spoke with her like once a week for about 9 months. Then she said she'd need another $3800, not the $2500 we'd agreed on, because it took more time. So I paid and then I paid another $1000 after a heated discussion (the case wasn't over and she threatened to drop me as a client). After like 11 months she said she'd need the rest of the money: $4800! At this point I was just screwed. I had no money left and she was already calling my mother... did I mention my mother knew nothing of this "accident"? Long story short, I was found guilty (probation) but still haven't paid the bill and it's been almost 2 years. I still get calls at home and at work. If my job finds out about this I'm bound to lose my job, but they keep calling. She had no "connections" and that warm smile turned into an evil bite once the money ran out. I messed up, but that's no excuse for extorting money from hard-working people that just happened to make a bad decision in life. For this much money, I thought a lawyer would be on my side, but TV is absolutely correct: lawyers are soul-less money-grubbing scumbags!!! Unless you've got an endless pocketbook, please be wary. This one's pure evil and I really hope she gets what she deserves! |
