MATTRESS DEPOT USA David Smith, President REFUSAL TO PAY FOR PROFESSIONAL CLEANING OF 24 STAINS LEFT BY DELIVERY PERSONNEL Bellevue, Washington |
9th of Nov, 2011 by User556337 |
We are extremely dissatisfied with the treatment given us by the owner of Mattress Depot USA. He refused to take responsibility for serious damage to our brand new 2-week-old bedroom carpet which was caused by the carelessness and recklessness of his delivery personnel. When our mattress was delivered, I saw that the two delivery men were leaving dark brown marks on our brand new $1500 bedroom carpet and hallway. I tried to stop the men to determine the source of the marks but they refused to stop and continued unpacking the mattress, putting it in place and removing the old one. I watched as more stains appeared rapidly until when they had left a trail of more than two dozen stains on our brand new 2-week old carpet. The manager of the Northgate store referred the documentation of damage and our request to the owner of the company, David Smith. [You can see pictures of some of the stains, which have been posted.] Instead of taking responsibility for the damage, Mr. Smith refused to pay the $140 minimum charge to have our carpet cleaned professionally, which is required to maintain the warranty. He instead accused my wife and I of trying to "have all your carpets cleaned because of a couple of spots." Of course, Mr Smith knew full well that the cleaning amounted to the one bedroom and the hallway through which his delivery men had trekked, and that the damage amounted to not a "couple" but a trail of more than two dozen stains -- of which he had photos of each spot which we sent him on the afternoon of the delivery. When told that the carpets had to be cleaned professionally to maintain the warranty by DuPont, Mr. Smith said that the most he would agree to do us for us was to "send my deliverymen" back out to our house with "professional cleaning equipment." Deliverymen + "professional" equipment does not equal professional cleaning. It is clear from our experience that Mattress Depot USA's management, including the owner, will do what it can to avoid taking responsibility for whatever consequential damage it causes. We wish that we had bought our mattress set from a firm that is large enough to stand behind its products and services and is concerned about protecting its reputation. |
