Magic Mesh deceptive advertising Internet |
29th of Jun, 2011 by User996994 |
Per the advertisement on television one could purchase the Magic Mesh screen door for 19.95 and get a second one free. This consists of two mesh panals that part and connect back together with magnets placed along the middle edge. These two panels make one mesh door. Upon placing my online order I was offered the second screen door for an additional 7.95 shipping charge (I had already been charged this once for the first screen door ordered) so I declined the second door. They then made an offer to send me a second door for another 19.95 and I could skip the shipping charge, again I declined. I took the next offer to upgrade to a thicker mesh with a two year warranty for an additional $5.00. With my order complete and my credit card info. entered I was given my total. It came to just over $48.00. The order for the mesh door itself was 39.90, my upgrade was an additional 10.00, my shipping was 15.90 plus tax of 2.77. I live in California and this company is in CT. I usually am not charged sales tax unless my merchandise is shipped from a California address. I called the company for an explanation of my charges. Per Steve, the deal on television is to purchase only one panel so all charges are doubled since you need two panels for this product to even be used. Will never order from this company again.

On 8/20/2011, I ordered a pair of Magic Mesh screen doors via their automated phone system 1-800-667-1951. I only just placed the order and they say it will take like 6 weeks, so I have not received them yet - so I cannot comment on the quality of the product, but I can review the order process and offer some helpful hints.
The TV ad had a price of $14.95 + P&H, while the web site showed $19.95. To my surprise the phone system did offer it for 14.95 and it charged the same shipping as the web size. Shipping is $7.95 * 2 = $15.90 for the double offer. (I don't think there is an option to order just one). So the total was $14.95+7.95+7.95 = $30.85 which is a good price (if the product is any good).
They offered a lot of add-on purchases - you have to press zero to decline each one. When you decline they ask you again so you have to press zero again. It takes a while - but you can press zero in advance (ie do not wait thru the whole question).
They offer an upgrade to a "stronger smaller mesh" magic screen door for $5 more per door. I declined it, but it might be a good idea.
They ask how many additional sets you want. The wording is tricky. You might think you have to say 1 to get the two-for-one offer. But that is not correct. Say zero to the additional sets question to get one set of two doors. When I declined, they offered additional sets for even less - just $9.95+SH. I declined, but that was tempting. The pocket seats for $10 were also tempting but I declined all offers. They also offer Easy Reach Plant Pulley Hangers. You might want to look these items up on the Internet before you call to see if you might want them.

I just had the same experience as reported by many others. (Slapping myself for not properly investigating this before getting scammed into placing an order online.)
I ordered ONE set, and the invoice displayed after I had entered my credit card information and submitted the order, said I had bought TWO sets. I definitely had not.
I'm going to have my bank reject this charge. |

Slapping myself for not investigating Magic Mesh properly before placing an order, I just got victimized by the same scam that so many others have reported. Their ordering process has a mechanism that automatically DOUBLES the number of products you ordered. They don't tell you they're doubling your order, until you enter your credit card, submit the order, and see your final "order confirmation".
I ordered one, they charged my credit card for two. I'm going to have my credit-card issuer reject the charge. |

I was just about to order this products. By luck I read all these complaints to prevent me to purchase the product. Thank you all. |

wow. I was thinking of ordering, but seeing all this stuff in the comments, is not worth it. I live in the country and have little 4 legged critters roaming around, sound as if nothing to stop them from coming in the bottom. Also have a golden retriever that goes in and out, and if it does not close properly, why buy it. Thanks a million. what a rip off. |

I had the same problem as everyone here who wrote. the good thing is i called the next day and i askes the lady to please cancel my order. she was very nice to do it. I have figured a way to do it myself and that is to buy some velcro and put it at the top above the door. Maybe cut it in the middle and add some good magnets. I am gonna give it a try! Plus you can get a better grade of screen at home depot of lowes. |

JUST order 1 set and the total was 91.00... Am calling Bank Now to stop payment. Monday, Calling the State Attorney General's Office to file theft charges. They doubled my order which they listed at 29.95 a piece and then added 34.00 shipping.
This falls under Online fraud and theft. To file a report... Which I just did... Go to this link.

I wish I had seen this page before I ordered The regular 19.95 + $7.95 x2 tot total $35.85 Got charged 2x29.95 +processing $31.80 free shipping offer, . Total $ $91.70
.I tried to back out so I could find out what I had done wrong placing order. That was not possible once you see the total the order is done. I called customer service and was told they could not see my order I will have to wait and call back tomorrow.
I did they said I ordered the deluxe version " I didnt know there was a deluxe version" and they credited a total of 41.80 back to my card or so they say. "We wont charge until we ship" the charge was on my card the very next morning. I was told "2 seperate boxes had already been shipped and that I should refuse delivery on 1." Then when they received 1 box back they will credit my account $15.00. We shall see.
I guess time will tell how this turns out. Buyer beware once they have your info you are locked in there seems to be no way to back out or cancel. |

Wow! Thanks for the comments people! I just got a new place and was about to order the magic mesh, but now I'm not! For everyone's information, they usually have these types of infomercial products at Bed Bath & Beyond for the same price, with NO SHIPPING and HANDLING costs, obviously, since you're buying them right from the store.
So, in the future, check out Bed Bath & Beyond first! Good luck! |

I order one at $ 19.95 and one free, i receive 4 doors at $ 71.70 +shipping its scam |

I too ordered from Magic Mesh. I clicked on the button for ordering at 19.99 a piece and when you put in your credit card info you think you are going to be able to review your order. You can't and THEN you realize you were charged for 2 and they weren't $19.99 a piece, there were 29.99 a piece. $30 worth of shipping and handling -- $97. I am refusing this package at the door. I ordered Friday afternoon, called right away, they said I had to wait 24 hours and they wouldn't be open till Monday. I called Monday and they said it had already shipped -- that's not true - today I got an email that it shipped yesterday -- 2 days later. There is something seriously wrong here!! Don't order from this company. |

I'm so glad I finally came across some REAL reviews on this crappy product. I was searching the web for at least a half hour and only came across obvious planted reviews made by the magic mesh company themselves. Claiming everything was perfect and great and with no problems at all. That right there was a huge red flag for me. I feel so bad for everyone who is dealing with this shitty company and glad I stopped short of ordering. So thank you for your honest reviews. Especially the one before mine- classic. |

Thank god there are people out there getting our backs. I was about to order these screens and decided to check out if there has been any issues with this product. OMG, i can not believe that people like these can make a living at the expense of the working joe and get away with it.
Thanks to everyone who have posted the info! |

CHARGED DOUBLE!!! I usually check reviews before placing orders on something I haven't gotten before, but this time I was in a hurry. I was wondering about the order review page also, as this is standard whenever I've placed online orders from other vendors, but I proceeded on thinking it would pop up. Instead, I got my order and sure enough the total was $66.70. By my calculations it should have been $35.85 and based on the website and TV advertisement, it states BUY ONE, AND GET A SECOND ONE FREE PLUS EXTRA PACKAGING AND HANDLING FOR BOTH. Given this, it should have been $19.95 for one screen panel, plus $7, 95 for P&H, and $0 ($ZERO) for the second panel, but $7.95 for P&H.
I called C/S and spoke with JoAnne and she said the order was not showing up in their system although I had the order number already. She said to call back in an hour. I then decided to check the reviews, and found that everyone has experienced the same problem, so I called my credit card company and I have to wait to see if this order posts on my account next billing period so they can dispute it for me.
If I end up going through what you all have gone through, I'll be in touch with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) which I think all of you should do. This company should not be in business AT ALL if this is how they deal with their customers.
SO CAUTION TO ANYONE WHO CHECKS THE REVIEWS FIRST - BE CAREFUL BEFORE ORDERING FROM THIS COMPANY, I HOPE I WON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH WHAT YOU WENT THROUGH. |
