So I'm job hunting for CSR positions and Admin Assistant positions online. One of the ads I replied to & sent my resume to got back to me; email addresses have been omitted...see below:

To proceed with this ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT POSITION, you must undergo an online interview via yahoo messenger. You are required to have a yahoo instant messenger on your computer. I want you to setup a yahoo messenger (IM) if you don't have one and Instant Message me (Peter Smith) on my yahoo ID (yahoo ID at a Yahoo email address) Asap for the interview so that you can get Started for the position. -- I notice that this appears to be his personal email address, and even though his reply has some odd spaces in it and some incorrect grammar (he could be a foreigner or a poorly-educated American, after all), so I give him the benefit of the doubt. Now, below here I will post our "online interview" on Yahoo Messenger and you will soon see for yourselves he's a croc --(FYI, 'Maidhc' is just the Irish Gaelic spelling of 'Mike')-- As soon as he refused to give me a better idea of where this supposed office will be & then he asked me about petty cash, I was like "uh oh, I was right...": Maidhc: Good Morning, Mr. Smith

Why do you want this job, what do you understand by the term "pettycash" and are you currently employed ?
Maidhc: From what I recall, I saw the job description & requirements, and felt I could do this job & succeed well at it. I understand "petty cash" as being company money being used for official purposes, which is counted and accounted for, though I'm sure that's not a complete definition.
Maidhc: And no, I'm not currently employed.
Peter Smith: How would you describe your work ethics and are you comfortable with the fact that this is an online/work from home job pending when our office will be completed at the end of next month in PA? Maidhc: Excellent work ethnic. "Comfort" is relative; it would depend on what my duties would be and which/how many hours I would need to put in.

Peter Smith: This is a work from home job where you will be doing data entry clerk (accounting related) work will be sent to you daily via emails and u are to submit work back to me at the end of the day via email.

As an Administrative Assistant/Data Entry Assistant Online you will:
Peter Smith: *Enter admission and billing data for clients and payroll information for employees into the computer system, and forward documentation to the appropriate processing center. Peter Smith:
*Maintain client/employee records, and distribute copies of compliance documentation to appropriate branch staff based on Company approved standardized paper flow.
Peter Smith:
*Ensure all client and employee files are current and complete, interface with administrative staff to gather deficient or inaccurate documents, and notify the manager when employees do not respond to requests for needed documentation
And any other related data entry tasks as it may be assigned by the supervisor. I believe you can handle all of this at any given time?
Maidhc: I can handle this in the morning, afternoons and evenings, generally Monday through Friday.

Maidhc: Well you'll forgive me for being skeptical, Mr. Smith, but I'd like the added benefit of person-to-person contact so that I know you and the company you're representing are legit. I don't normally need to send the information you just asked me for because it's all on my resume, which you say you've already seen.
Peter Smith: verifying your information
Peter Smith: so that we dont make any mistake while issueing your check
Maidhc: Ok, but that doesn't address the 2 points I just mentioned: Legitimacy, and that the information being on my resume. I am available to meet in person to confirm such information as well.

After I typed about continuing jobhunting, I went to do other stuff online, just to see if he was actually going to respond or come back to the conversation (note I said "conversation" instead of "interview"!), that's when I started Buzzing him, etc. :-) So, basically, everyone, as they say, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.
