John Moore's technician came out to fix my A/C and arrived at 10:15 am on 05/23/2011, because the temperature was 80 degrees. He charged $718.00 for 2 capacitor that he said that would fix the problem. He left at 12:29 pm and the unit was running but not blowing any cold air through the ducts. He never checked the freon or the unit for any other problems. The technical said it would take 4 hours to cool down. It never did, and 4 hours later the temperature was 81 degrees. I called John Moore to come back, I was told the tech would be here between noon-5:00 pm on 05/23/2011. He did not arrive on time, and 3 phone calls later to John Moore, he finally got here at 10:30 pm after he had finished all his service calls. Instead of them sending someone else out, we had to wait until the tech finished all his service calls. He walks in with the A/C gauges around his neck to finally test the unit. The tech decided that the freon was low, so he added 10 pounds to the unit. This amount is shown on the invoice. The unit did cool down, but when the outside temp got in the 90's, the outside unit shut down. The tech said unit was leaking freon at the evaporator and this was why it was shutting down. But he did not check the evaporator for leaks and said the evaporator needed to be replaced. I called another company and they came out, and fixed the unit. They checked the freon pressures and they determined there was to much freon in the unit, and checked the evaporator and it was not leaking. The unit has been working fine since the 2nd company came out. John Moore said the freon was low. If it was low, then where was the freon leaking. John Moore added 10 pounds (so they say), if it leaking, then why didn't this added 10 pounds leak out. I called John Moore numerous times regarding the overcharge and the fact that they did not fix the problem. I talked to Donna Blair and she was suppose to get back with me. Then on June 6, at 4:51 pm, I got a call from the technician's supervisor. I explained I had talked to another company regarding John Moore's charges. The other company said they charge $385.00 for the same repair. His answer was they charge this price because they offer 24 hour/7 day service. My service call was for Monday morning - it was not an after hour service call. I also told him the technician did not fix the a/c problem. He again said that the evaporator needed to be replaced before the unit would work properly. The 2 capacitors can be purchased at any a/c supply store for $59.00. This is the same brand and same size that John Moore put in. So, when they charged $718.00, and still did not fix the problem, that is and excessive charge. Thank you. |
