Fiduciary, Jared Shafer brags about stealing from seniors at high school reunion.
We are Doug and Bonnie C. Our fortieth High School class reunion from Las Vegas High was spoiled when Jared Shafer showed up. Jared bragged about how he was able to fraudulently beat the draft by putting albumin in his urine so the draft board would refuse him on the basis of having bad Kidneys. Jared laughed saying “no Southeast Asia for me.†Jared during the same evening boasted about the large number of senior citizens he legally took money from as their court appointed guardian. Jared Shafer wasn’t popular with us in 1961; seeing him at this event only enforced our disdaine for his way of life.
Jared Shafer constantly bragged to anyone who would listen about how he was going to find a way to get money without working for it. Most of us didn’t pay attention to his distorted rhetoric. At our twentieth reunion in 1981, Jared Shafer told us he hit the gravy train as a public guardian. We didn’t believe Jared when he said “I’ve got a license to steal and none of you can do a *** thing about it.â€
On our fortieth reunion Jared went far beyond anything we thought possible. At the 40th reunion banquet held at Macao Vegas on September 9, 2011 Jared Shafer said while he was intoxicated, he had top Las Vegas officials in his pocket. Jared said Commissioner Jon Norheim, Judge Chuck Hoskin, and others received cash payments in exchange for as he put it “letting him do what he wants in senior trust accounts.†Jared wanted everyone to know he was worth millions and challenged any class member to check the County Recorder’s office if we didn’t believe him. Bonnie my wife attempted to change the subject, but Jared Shafer told her to shut her mouth. Jared said “it’s too bad all of you couldn’t become guardians. God said only one member of this class is good enough.†Michael K. from our class attempted to suggest that Jared go outside and calm down, but this suggestion was brushed off.
After the reunion Bonnie and I met three families who were swindled by Jared Shafer. One man said his Aunt died from an illegal medical experiment, which Jared Shafer approved as her guardian. Another victim told us his father was forced out of his home and placed into a substandard facility where he died within 60 days. A third person reported her Uncle died after Jared Shafer separated him from his wife of 30 years. All of the victims had bank accounts in excess of $300,000.
In early November I ran into Jared Shafer. I asked him why he chose to live his life in this way. Jared said “the seniors are in Las Vegas for the taking and if I don’t give them what they deserve, someone else will.â€
After careful consideration Bonnie and I contacted the authorities. We learned from a good friend who works at the Las Vegas police Department Shafer has this agency under his control. All reports about Jared’s activities found their way to file 13, which is another name for the waste basket. The state appears to be suffering from the same condition. We are contacting federal authorities to see if something can be done. So far no one has returned our calls. An Internet search produced the scam report, which displayed many reports from victim families written about Jared Shafer’s stealing. Other sites including Scam Informer, Scam Tracers, Board Reader, and scam Rant contain reports posted concerning the fowl treatment of Jared Shafer concerning his wards. I’m 69 and it would cause me considerable heart ache to leave this world without something being done to stop the cruelty of Jared Shafer, a person I’ve known for over 40 years. |
