On December 13 of 2010, I was on my way to work when I noticed that my 2001 VW Beetle had little or no power. I pulled over and called my step-dad. He went through the phone book (first mistake) and found a local mechanic that specializes in repairing any VW. He then followed me the 30+ miles to the mechanics shop. I was told to leave my car and they would give me a call when they figured out the problem. I was called by the secretary Maea (who is the girlfriend of the owner) I was told that they did a diagnostic and that it was just the spark plugs. A very simple thing to fix and my vehicle should be ready shortly. When we got ready to go home I gave them a call to see if my car was possible ready. A man told me that it was not, but would be ready the next morning. I arranged for a ride to go pick it up. The next morning, I decided to call before I left work to get the car since I was told the previous evening that it would be ready. The phone was answered by Maea. I explained to her that I was on my way to pick up the car. She was instantly upset. She explained to me that NOTHING in the shop happens without her say-so, and my car would be ready when SHE said that it was. Until then I was to wait for her to call me. I actually did what I was told and waited. By the end of the day I started getting upset. I really needed my car and could not understand what was taking so long. I finally called again and was told by a mechanic that the new spark plugs did not work and that they were ordering a coil for it. He also mentioned that Martin, the owner wanted to talk to me about something and would call me later. After waiting a few hours for Martin to call, I decided to call again. I was upset that they ordered an expensive part without discussing it with me and wanted to speak with him anyway. Martin came to the phone and told me that my car had caught on fire. He claimed no one was at the shop when it happened so the whole front was pretty burned up. He explained that he had turned it in to his insurance and he and them would be contacting me. I really honestly believed that he would fix the car and everything would be okay. After not hearing from him or his insurance after 2 days I called the shop. I was extremely upset as I live 25 miles away from my work and being with out a car for 4 days was getting annoying. Maea as usual answered the phone. I was not very polite and will be the first person to admit it. I asked her what their problem was with communication? I felt after the previous conversation, the least they could do was keep me updated on what was happening with my car. She answered by, "maybe it's because you're a fu**ing c*nt, I've told you before I will call you when I feel you need to be called." I went postal on her and she hung up on me. She then called the secondary number who happened to be my mother and started calling her names. Finally I hear from his insurance company on the following Friday. I find out that they are only a liability policy and that he does not have shop keepers insurance. Of course his insurance company declined to cover the damage and suggested I turn it over to my insurance company. Now I have been without a car for 2 weeks and haven't been offered a rental car, a sorry or anything from Martin the owner. I open a claim with my insurance company. They take one look at the literal wreckage and promptly consider it a TOTAL LOSS. Now I file a complaint with the BBB against him and start telling my story on local review boards. This man has the mentality of a pre-schooler in my opinion, he starts calling my contact numbers and yells and harasses any member of my family that he can. He has started writing good reviews for his own business and has called me a liar on many of those sites. It it Oct of 2012 and this nightmare is still going on. Since MY insurance company compensated me for the total loss, I have been told that there is no legal way I can sue him. He knows this and he and his hoochie mamma girlfriend have been more than happy to let me know this.
