I have read with a heavy heart the complaints about ITT on this site. I am a former instructor at ITT in Indiana. I hope potential students AND employees will read this. ITT is a for-profit business. ITT's business is education. ITT's business model is so simple it is simply criminal: Extract money from banks and the government through student loans, grants, and the GI Bill. There is nothing more to know. All these reports are true. ITT recruits anyone. I have had students that range from gifted to hopeless. Most were poor. Some were on house arrest. Some were perhaps even functionally illiterate. Most of my students (at a technical school) were not comfortable with computers. Most were absolute SLACKERS. It was a shame for the few truly special students that all my time was spent writing middle school lessons for college students. And, yes, there were some very good students. Most (not all) of my fellow teachers and staff members were interested, caring, and extremely competent. However, ITT just uses people up and eventually we leave. Sometimes on our own. Sometimes we just get fired with no notice. Well, word gets around and eventually good people do not want to teach at ITT. It is simply not worth the aggravation for the pittance we are paid. I enjoy teaching and I am truly sorry for those good students. The recruiters and Directors are the only well-paid employees. The students are the key to extracting the money. Teachers are a mere inconvenience. The students must remain enrolled in class. Thus, they are hounded by instructors and staff to get to class, stay in class, and pass the class. Understand? The money stops if the student stops and ITT does not let little things like curriculum or standards or objectives or parents or teachers get in the way of the money stream. I try to be proud of the work I did but mostly I'm embarrassed to be associated with ITT.
