On 6/12/11 around noon I received a call from a number that had the same area code as mines. It was a lady that introduced herself as someone from the "Dreams Come True Sweepstakes." She was very nice and courteous and said that she was a new employee. She went on to explain that I was chosen to be entered into the sweepstakes because I owned a Visa or Mastercard. She said that the prizes that I was entered to win was $250,000 in cash, a trip to Australia, a shopping spree, and some other things that I can't remember. She also asked me a couple of questions about what my hobbies were, and went on giving me my address and asked me if it was correct. I though it was legit because she knew my address and phone number. She then transferred me to her supervisor who was a guy and he asked me a couple of more questions and explained that I had won a diamond watch. He also asked me which one would I prefer, a male watch or a female, and he made jokes about how he should have known I wasn't going to choose the male watch. He went ahead to explain the names of the magazines and that the magazine suscriptions were $4.99 a week. I thought to myself that $4.99 wasn't bad for 3 magazines. So when I agreed to it, he also told me that he would throw a free magazine in there for a total of $68.28 a month. He was talking so fast that I could barely get in my question on what if I wanted to cancel the suscription. He said that I would have 3 days to cancel but the only reason I would want to cancel is if my interests changed; he also told me that they would not charge me right away and that the magazines would take two days to be delivered. So I went ahead and gave him my card number and exp. date on it not really thinking much of it. Later that day when I went home I checked my account to see that they had already taken the money off my account. I have not received the magazines yet in the mail so I decided to do a little research on the International Reading Services to only find out that it is a ripoff. This company is not even registered with the BBB and I am so furious that I have been victimized by this "so called" company. I hope people read this so they can prevent being ripped off in the future. I called my bank and they said there's nothing they can do right now until the transaction has cleared because it is still pending. I am so sorry to see that many other people have been ripped off also. This is horrible and they need to be stopped! Once this transaction clears I will be cancelling my card right away and filing a dispute with my bank! |

My son just had the same exact thing happen. he is away at school for the first time and thank goodness he had enough smarts to call me right away. Just think a college student being told he was entered into a sweepstakes for $25, 000.00. We checked online and the account looked ok but while my son called the bank the transaction hit and they are not going to authorize the transaction and they have put a hold on all of the accts. since it is so late he has to go in tomorrrow and close out all of his accounts and open new ones. Well I guess lesson learned and if it is a lost, its $68.00 and not something more extreme. Just sucks!!! |
