Some time in 2009 the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) England through an e-mail I received from Mrs. Emma Goodman, the ICM Executive Director accepted in principle to certify the business programs developed by me and others to be offered under the GLOBAL INVESTORS UNIVERSITY (GIU) in Cameroon. This was in-line with the procedures of the ICM continuous Professional Development status. I did pay 100GBP for the application process. A short while after the acceptance from ICM, Mrs. Emma Goodman shifted the goalpost by writing to me that the ICM Academic Board can only certify the GIU programs if we will accept to offer the ICM Standard programs for one or two years as an ICM approved teaching Centre. She further said that I have to pay another 100GBP to apply as a teaching centre for ICM. I contested this heavily. After some negotiation with the ICM Chairman, Dr. Alistair Sommerville Ford confessed to me that there was no real problem with our application--but that they did not just have the skilled personnel to evaluate or monitor the programs that the GIU had developed. He requested that I should select any of the standard courses offered by the ICM and which can be of help to the development of my country Cameroon and offer it as a teaching centre. Though this was not the plan of action of GIU but I had no option but to incorporate the program as one of GIU partnership projects. I went through it and saw two relevant programs, notably: COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT and MARITIME MANAGEMENT. But I informed him that the Maritime Management program may not be offered by us because we have practically one useful sea port in Cameroon that would need the services of those who will graduate from this program. Therefore many of the graduates will go jobless. I said to him that the Commercial Management would be useful but it needs to be customized to meet the needs of Cameroon. He gave me the go-ahead that I should propose some changes and if it is accepted by him he will forward it to the Chief Examiner of the course for approval and for the final endorsement of the ICM Academic Board. He said that the ICM can assist us with some funds in marketing the ICM Commercial Management program in Cameroon if all goes well. In March 2010 Dr. Ford informed me that the Academic Board had accepted the program restructure for Commercial Management which I did propose, and he equally informed me that the Academic Board had accepted to assist us with 500GBP for the exercise, but added that the board would need further clarifications on many other things in the program structure. He however advised that we should offer the ICM program as it stands for the meantime, then subsequently we will implement the new structure for which I did propose. On this basis the ICM gave us a Teaching and Examination Centre status. In April 2010 the ICM finally sent us the 500GBP in my name after I had submitted the marketing plan. The GIU that was created as a non-profit making organization was dependent on the goodwill support of many people to push through its dream. So the AKALE Professional Institute (API) that is based in the Cameroon’s Commercial capital in Douala had created another campus in Buea, Cameroon. But because they did not have many students—I approached the director of the Institute requesting the he should allow us use the campus for the meantime with them, their compensation as was agreed, will be based on a percentage of the number of students we have for the start. Prior to receiving the 500GBP from ICM, I was informed that they will not be using their campus in Buea again—that all their activities will henceforth be based in Douala. So GIU was bound to transfer it activities to AKALE main campus in Douala. So the director of AKALE gave me all the contacts and the physical address of the Douala campus, and even told me not to hesitate to call his attention in case of any emergency. All these arrangements were made over the phone. It was this new campus address that I gave to Mrs. Emma Goodman, the Executive Director of ICM before receiving the assistance from ICM. I arrived Douala some few weeks later to register and mail the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was drafted exclusively by ICM and to by signed by Dr. FORD and myself. I had already signed my part; it was Dr. Ford that had to sign his own part of the bargain. That same day I met the Director of the API Douala, whom during our discussions about the campus, to my greatest dismay had to deviate from the prior hosting agreement we had made by asking me to pay him 2,500,000 FCFA cash payment in order to use the API campus in Douala—after having learnt that we had received some funds from ICM—he probably thought it was quite a giant sum. I had no option but to abandon the API-GIU campus negotiation. I returned to Buea to make arrangements for a campus that we will rent on our own. The new campus we met had to undergo some finishing touches, so I was trying to source out some funds from those who were to support the project. In the month of May 2010, one lady called me over the phone and asked me that she wanted to pay her fees for the programs we are offering. I told her that he have not yet settled down on a campus we will use to start off the program, but I registered her mobile phone number informing her that when we must have finalized the arrangements she would get the announcement over the radio or, if possible I would call her to come to the campus and see what we will be offering. About two weeks later this same girl called and insisted that she wanted to pay her tuition fee, and I told her again that I will not take money from any student until everything is set as I had earlier said. She then insisted on seeing me physically, so I told her to meet me at the University of Buea Junction, at Molyko Buea. Upon arriving there I did not see the girl, but met a certain man who introduced himself as the ICM coordinator for AFRICA. He gave me his name as EMMANUEL OKEKEARU who is of Nigerian nationality. He asked me one or two questions about my involvement with ICM. I tried to express myself but he never gave me a chance, but was insisting threateningly by cajoling me towards a stationary private car, he was accompanied by a tug. That tug happened to have known me so many yes back. Because of this he hesitated to use direct force by forcing me to enter into that car--which was to head to unknown destination with me. The tug confessed to me by saying that: “BIG BROTHER, I DID NOT KNOW YOU WERE THE ONE”. The hijacking exercise could no longer be realized because population was moving toward the scene. I took the opportunity to hurriedly run away kidnapping attempt. Later in the evening, one of those who had goodwill to assist the project after being intimidated and harassed by Mr. EMMANUEL OKEKEARU—he convened a meeting for three of us. There in the meeting Mr. OKEKEARU asked me to “change the name of the ‘GLOBAL INVESTORS UNIVERITY’ into an ‘Institute’ or a ‘Centre’ under ICM and all my problems in life will be solved” but I vehemently refused that am ready to pursue my goal even if I lose my life in the process. It was then that I came to understand that the PAN AFRICAN INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT (PAIDWA) which is an ICM approved Centre in Buea was a major party of this arrangement, they had one of their workers by name ITOE who was actively involved in it. For this reason I told Dr. ALISTAIR SOMMERVILLE FORD that I will commence legal action for attempted kidnapping by Mr. OKEKEARU and associates, he told me that “ICM has vast resources and connections” so any move I take will be hard hit by ICM. Since I have no voice, and my parents all died on December 12, 2010 after a wild fire ravaged my home and the neighborhood and consumed the lives of my old and helpless parents; the ICM understood only too well that even in the face of such unbearable torture I cannot fight back. Well I know that my life will be on scale balance if ICM comes to know that decided to break the silence spoken the truth to the world. Really I will not be able to withstand ICM arsenal. Well, if this will have to put an end to my life—then, let it be so. GOOD BYE. Please see the information on this link that appears on the ICM announcement section on their official website on the best way the ICM can appreciate me http://www.icm.ac.uk/important-announcements/school-delisted-%E2%80%93-global-investors-university-giu-republic-of-cameroon/4447/ |
