I was cheated by the Rockwall (Dallas area) Texas Hilton on 10/20/2011. One attempt by the bartender and a second successful attempt of 50.00 by the Hotel Concierge manager named Kyle Tynan. I had a wedding to attend in Dallas Texas-Brides side. The reception was at the Rockwall, Texas Hilton so I booked a room for 7 days to attend the wedding and have some fun with my family,do a little site seeing etc. Being from California I assumed the Hilton would be gracious hosts as they are when I stay at their chain of hotels here and up and down the California coast, Riverside,Ca Las Vegas, Nevada and just about every other place I go as I am a Hilton Honors member. I was wrong. The first night was 10-19-2011. I showed up and it was rather late-After 11 pm if I recall correctly. I tipped the very pleasant lady at the front desk 20.00 and we were checked into a room that offered a terrible view of their parking lot. We opted to spend an additional 50.00 a night for a river view. The next evening I decided to have a cocktail at the Hilton bar named C and be scene or something catchy like that. The bar was empty and I ordered a drink from a male Hispanic bartender at around 5-6 pm. It was a Vodka, Malibu rum and Pineapple in a short glass. He brought the drink and after I drank it I paid 20.00 and realized that I was charged way to much. When I mentioned that the drink was rather expensive he walked over and brought the correct amount of change back to me with a dirty look. No explanation or apology was offered. I realized that he had just tried to cheat me. The more I thought about it the angrier I got. I pushed the glass off the bar onto the floor and called him a expletive thief and left to find an honest establishment to drink at. I went to the front desk first and complained to the evening manager before I left about what had just happened. After several hours I returned to the hotel and stopped to have a drink as the club was filling up with guests for a convention and wedding guests like myself. I had all but forgotten the incident. As I was walking through the bar the bartender that tried to cheat me yelled out that he wasn't going to serve me. Another female bartender did take my order. I hadn't ask him to serve me to begin with and found myself in the uncomfortable position of having to explain to onlookers including wedding guests that I hadn't yet been introduced to until the next night at the grooms meal outside of the hotel why he would yell that out . The asst beverage manager Kyle showed up and I explained to him what had happened and tore a 50.00 bill in half. I offered the half bill to him and told him that if the security camera's didn't show the bartender trying to cheat me that I would give the other half to the bartender on my knees with an apology. The manager said that I had too much to drink and that I was cut off for 1/2 hour and he brought a water to me. After the 1/2 hour I requested a drink and was ask to leave the bar for taking photograph's. The bartender did not want to have his photo taken. I handed over my Iphone to allow him to delete any photos he wanted but he insisted that I leave. I did not get belligerent or use foul language (except when the bartender and I were alone the first time I went in there) When the manager ask me to leave I did without being rude or escorted. No security had to show up. I complied immediately. On my way to the front desk to file my complaint a second time 3 Rockwall police officers were there to meet me. One rather large police woman who was in charge. I'd say she as at least 5' 2" and 2 smaller police officers-both men. They were angry before I spoke. When I answered the first of the police woman stream of questions I answered yes sir-I immediately apologized and answered Yes maam to all of her following questions as she tried to gauge If I had been drinking too much that evening- I was courteous and concise. I was not slurring or rude. Questions like where I was from -Did I tear a 50.00 in half and give it to the bartender-I told her what had happened and why I did tear the 50.00 in half. I offered to take a field sobriety test or any other test to prove that I was not intoxicated. While she declined to give me the test's I offered to take she did tell me that based on my first yes sir at the beginning of the conversation she had the right to take me to jail. She offered me the option of jail or being escorted to my room by the 2 police officers-I chose the latter and was escorted to my room without another word being said to the officers that escorted me. She explained to me several times that the Hilton didn't call them but that someone inside the bar had called them. I believe it was the bartender but she may have been covering for the Hilton as she knew about the 50.00 offer I made with the torn bill and I had just left the bar-Also it was obvious that I was not intoxicated or security would of been called by the hotel staff. The option was bypassed for the Police. After about 15 minutes I left my room and went to the other restaurants in the area for drinks and socializing with out any further incidents. The next day I stopped by the outside bar and spoke to the Manager Kyle Tynan . I ask if there was a bar tab due from the night before and I was told that it had been paid. I was there for 5 more nights. I was never contacted by Kyle although I ran into him several times during my stay-He would nod or ignore me(He also kept my 1/2 50.00 bill) or Kyles manager Martha or the night manager (couldn't get this gentlemans name) that I has filed the complaint with or the general manager Karen Coughlin. That next day the bartender glared out at me from the river view patio outside my room which also overlooked the bar (why was he looking up into the 4th floor rooms to begin with?-Creepy). It was clear that I could no longer use the bar comfortably or even hang out on our patio without being glared at by the bartender. I didn't bother to acknowledge his staring or his obvious retelling of my previous nights visit. I was shunned by the Grooms family and felt that I had brought unwanted attention to the brides side by standing up for what was fair and honest from my point of view. I will not be cheated or be bullied. The security cameras from the front desk and bar will confirm this story- I will offer 500.00 if a Dallas area attorney can get me copies of the security tapes so that I can post them for the world to see. (Hello YouTube) . I am not a daily alcohol drinker. Once a week or 2 weeks plus social occasions. I spend a little extra and stay where I feel I can trust the people and establishment to look out for me and be gracious. If you want to be swindled by the staff and bullied by the local police I highly recommend that you stay at the Dallas area Rockwall,Texas Hilton. I believe that the management encourages this type of behavior by ignoring and punishing victims that have been abused by their staff. I would hope that they are not in collusion but from my point of view it certainly seemed that way. I can be contacted through this website if you can get me the security tapes from that night |
