HBSC ART VAN Furniture Harassed me for payments even though I lost my job and gave them my last federal return of $2500 Carol Stream, Illinois |

My husband and I purchased some furniture from Art Van Furniture in 2009. We both were gainfully employed at the time. The terms for payment on the furniture were 2 yrs deferred payment. On November 26, 2010 I lost my employment, leaving us with only one income. I have been going to college and searching for job since then. Currently I still remain unemployed to date. Luckily we still had our income tax come and that enabled us to render a single payment of $2,500 dollars to them. Money that we really needed to survive on we gave to them. They have called me numerous times since then and I spoke with one of their representatives and let her know that we would do our best to make payments and send whatever we could I told her 20 dollars, but sent them $40. The following day I received a very persistent and nasty phone call that this was not good enough. In the beginning our balance was $4883.88 and now with interest they have doubled what we owe, totaling $8105.00. We have paid the $2500 and still owe $6061.00 according to their records. Only 2044.00 counted towards the balance. They then sent a bill in the mail stating that our new payment that was due for $158 and we had no money to send them. Then the following month they sent a bill for $400. I know that things accrue interest, but thats ridiculous. I am a person that always tries to pay my bills on time, but times have gotten really tough here in Michigan. Unless you have a degree, you have very little chance of landing a job that will be of any real help. I feel that they should at least acknowledge that I lost my job and try to work with me. They say that because I didn't purchase some agreement they supposedly offered that I am exempt. In their eyes maybe, but you can't get blood out of a rock. |
