Graham Grubbs, referred to me by Clint Sant, who assured me he could provide an irrigation system, came to work on my yard after I had outlined the landscaping and property dimensions that needed irrigation. I wanted an automatic, programmable underground system and showed him where future beds and plantings would go. He and Clint worked three days, making frequent calls to Graham's dad, Mark, in Monroe. After three days and much tinkering, they explained that the entire system was functional and adequate and I paid them the agreed amount (even though it seemed to be way too high after I realized they weren't providing me with a professionally done job - it looked like too high school students had designed it and left me with no working faucet in my back yard). The next morning, my first opportunity to really check out the system, I noticed that they had run a pipe through my neighbor's property (I have a zero lot line house). The builder from two lots over came to say that he had tried to stop the two of them and had told them they shouldn't put a water line on my neighbor's property but they ignored him. I told him I had been home the entire time and wished he had spoken with me. He also pointed out that they should have run an additional line from my main and that their installation, attached to my main line, was leaking and blocking the main cutoff valve to my house. Also, several sprinkler heads were set too high, making it impossible to mow over those areas. I called Graham right away and got his voice mail. He did return my call later and said that he was in Monroe and on spring break and wouldn't be back until Easter. I told him we were leaving for Easter and the following week but would call when I returned and that I had turned the water off, since the connection was leaking and I couldn't tighten it. I called when we returned and left a message. I never got a call back. I've left several messages, emailed Clint Sant, called Graham's dad and still haven't heard from him. It has been over a month since the work was done. Graham's dad claims he is in Kentucky and won't be able to call for 30 days (sounds like jail to me). Does anyone know of a job that would tie you up for 30 days without access to a telephone? In 2011? In the United States? I have emailed Mr. Sant three times before he finally returned my email and said he didn't know anything about the irrigation. He had drawn up a landscape plan for me two months ago and in this response email (after I threatened to make known his behavior to the LSU community where he was a student) he told me he needed me to return his drawing and pay $100 for the drawing. I consider him an accomplice but since Mr. Grubbs is primarily responsible for the work and for the lack of response to requests from me, I haven't filed a separate report about him. I wouldn't trust him or hire him either. |
