Several outraged Gilt Groupe consumers are confident in their judgments that GILT GROUPE is consciously violating provisions of the laws enforced by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. In particular, it is the belief that the unlawful violations are surrounding the broadcasting of false advertisements and unfair, deceptive acts and practices. It is believed to be in direct relation to GILT GROUPE failing to adhere not only to the FTC laws, but also to sound and ethical e-commerce/business practices. The politics behind the notion that GILT GROUPE may be deceiving its consumers through blatant, false advertising and unfair, deceptive acts and/or practices are supported by irrefutable evidence. According to one consumer, there are a multitude of tangible articles of proof including purchased materials with invoices, photographs, and personal statements from both GILT GROUPE as well as retail directors who currently have working relationships with GILT GROUPE. It is believed that these articles clearly prove the allegations by showing proof of misrepresentation, omission, or other practice, that misleads the consumer acting reasonably in the circumstances, to the consumer's detriment. On the day of Feb 13, 2011 the first attempt to contact GILT GROUPE about these concerns was made after several damaged/defective and possibly inauthentic products were delivered. Since then, many consumers have been trying to obtain clarity and answers involving many purchases which were found to be suspicious and possibly fraudulent. After carefully inspecting the items in question it became clear to one consumer that GILT GROUPE may be an online "Outlet Store†selling inauthentic or defective merchandise rather than the highly exclusive, online “Luxury Brand Retailer†as they portray/state on their web site www.gilt.com. The web site boasts statements such as: "Gilt Groupe provides access, by invitation only, to...coveted fashion and luxury brandsâ€, “Get Addictedâ€, and "We guarantee that every item sold on Gilt is the designer brand it promises to be." One of the companies was contacted who manufactured some of the items purchased from Gilt Groupe, JACK SPADE, to find answers regarding products purchased through Gilt Groupe. The Global Sales Manager, Micah Grossman, provided valid photographs from their inventory which unmistakably show the differences between the products provided by Gilt Groupe and what JACK SPADE actually produces/sells. So far, Gilt Groupe has refused to appropriately assist with these concerns. Individuals contacted include the following: Kevin Ryan (Founder and CEO of GILT GROUPE, INC.), Sarah Patterson (Senior HR Director), Allison Lucas (Associate General Counsel) |
