Our experience with FWC Realty and both Jeff Clark and Kevin Cornell was absolutely terrible. Do NOT rent from FWC Realty or live in Camay House on 1428 15th Street, Santa Monica Ca. The apartment is a dump, and they WILL rip you off and steal your deposit money from you. I put down a deposit of $1550, which is quite high. As a previous renter, I have never had to put down a deposit of that amount. As a respectful and clean tenant, I expected to at least get that amount back, or maybe a few hundred less due to a cleaning fee. In the past, I have always gotten my deposits back. The morning of my move out, neither of the managers could be bothered to do a walk through with me. In turn, I got stuck with the maintenance man who showed up smelling of smoke and alcohol and blatantly hung over from the night before. Countless times, I asked if I would get my security deposit back, and he assured me that I would only have a small amount (“One to Two Hundred dollars”) deducted for a cleaning fee. He told me that our apartment had nothing more than normal wear and tear, and there was no permanent damage done to the unit. When I received my account statement two weeks later (after I had to call, email and ask for it numerous times) I was beyond shocked to see $750 deducted from our account for various cleaning fees and paint damage after my husband and I thoroughly cleaned the apartment and painted the entire thing back to the color we were told by Jeff Clark. The walk out sheet that I had signed the morning of the move out had been tampered with and changed from its original condition where everything was marked as “Good.” I immediately called both Jeff Clark (Manager) and Kevin Cornell (Owner) to discuss these issues. It took over a week for each of them to call me back. Neither of them would address the issue, and kept pointing fingers at each other. Bottom line, the maintenance man marked everything as “Good” and then changed his mind after we left. We were also accused of stealing a shower head, which we never did. In addition to this mess, my husband and I volunteered to show the apartments for Kevin Cornell while we were still living there. We took phone calls and gave tours to over 30 people on our own personal time, and Kevin still had the decency to charge us $750 upon move out. I have since tried to call Kevin at least 8 times, and have heard nothing back from him. Both of these men are terrible business men, and have no decency as human beings. I suggest you do NOT rent from these men. They WILL rip you off, and will not return your calls as respectable human beings. Now I am out $750 of my hard earned money. |
