We got a call at our home phone about 2 weeks ago informing us that our phone number won in a random drawing and to receive our prize we have to see a demonstration for the product of the company. We accepted and the salesman arrived at our home around 8:00pm, the product was the Filter Queen Majestic vacuum cleaner and it's Defender which is some kind of air filter. The demonstration took about 4 hours in which the product seemed very good but then the salesman told us its prize which was 16,000 EGP (we live in Egypt) and that is about $3000. It seemed very pricey but the salesman continued on trying to convince us that its about the best vacuum ever made and that with the benefit of monthly payment it was a good deal, he was very persistent and in the end we were very tired (it was already 12:00 am) and consented to buy the product. We tried the product over the next 2 days and felt that it's not really different from regular vacuum cleaners and that it was way overpriced so we wanted to return it and get our money back. We tried to call the company but they won't answer, when they finally answered, a very rude phone operator said that the manager couldn't be contacted right now, we called again after an hour an the same operator answered and wouldn't let us contact the manager, after we said that we were going to contact the authorities she gave us the number of the salesman who sold us the product, we contacted him and told him we wanted to return the product and he checked the product and made sure it's intact and as he left it to us, and after much arguments he called the manager and after a long talk he said that we have to write a return request so that the manager can present it to the company board and then he will call us back to tell us what will be done, he said that the board will meet at the end of the month of April and that he will call us then. When the end of April came with no call we called him and he said that the board didn't meet yet and that he doesn't have the authority to return products, after a long argument he said that he will call us at the 15th of May. We of course thinks that this is just to waste time till the date for the first payment installment is due which is the 15th of May. We now fear that it's too late to prove our right in returning the product and that we will have to pay the monthly payments in spite of not wanting the product. Please tell me if you have any advices on any actions I could do, and please NEVER buy this product even if it seems good, they're scam artists, and never believe these sales phones and NEVER invite salesmen to your home. |

I was an employee of Health Mor, at their head office, makers of the Majestic a long time ago. It was the most embarrassing job I ever had. Vacuums selling at over $1200 in those days, when the manufacturing price was @$135. "How could they get away with this?" I wondered at the time. "Didn't governments put a cap on nmark up?" I lasted 18 months working in customer service. in that time I received written complaints regarding sales people who sold these "air purifiers" for over $1500 to old folks living in 10x12 foot rooms in nursing homes; to long pressued sales presentations lasting over 6 hours where people would agree to any price just to get the sales person out of their home. Don't let the head office manufacturer get away with the excuse of the distributor being completely independent and therefore having no control over them - they are well aware of what is going on and from the comments on this page and many other sites nothing has changed in the last 25 years! They are still playing the innocent and turning a blind eye. |
