Fatcow
Fatcow fatcow.com - Fatcow Inc - fatcow-webhosting.com False advertising diskspace, bandwidth and deceptive marketing. Burlington, Maine
23rd of Apr, 2011 by User465101
Fatcow promised me unlimited bandwidth and storage in the initial offer. They confirmed that several times along the way during the period of my involvement (well over 1 year). I had purchased the domain through them and soon after there was a death in the immediate family and put everything off for a time to adjust to that. After my initial term had ended they contacted me for renewal and I hesitated. I explained what had happened and also talked about problems I had encountered trying to get video to work correctly on my site. I was assured that Fatcow was right for me and we went into great detail all of my plans for the site. This included the fact that my plans were mostly video content. As soon as I started publishing they started attempting to claim I had violated their terms of service, I had not even really published anything at this point except a few pages of games for my grandsons and a few videos that were mostly just to work out a page format with, but I did have a large amount not yet published yet./ The first complaint was they wanted my home page published and I did that, second was that each file needed to be published, I offered to get that done within a few hours. Next complaint was too much storage. I argued that they sold to me "unlimited", then the bandwidth, I mentioned that they had promised me "unlimited bandwidth". Next they said I lied to them and insinuated I was stealing from them. I asked them to review the tech support logs and see for themselves that I had been honest since day 1. Next they tried to cap me at 20 GB, from 35 GB currently uploaded. I argued "No, that is not what you offered and we agreed to". Next they threatened me with content. I told them in respect to the file mentioned that I got it from Google Video and it says to download it right on the page.. Next a manager Shaun or Shawn (female name) got on the phone and told me that unlimited is not really unlimited, that 90% of their users use hardly any storage. I asked why the 20 GB limit now, she replied I don't even get that and her explanation to me was that the offer "unlimited" made by them means "given the circumstances it is what they consider to be reasonable". I asked for my money back and she declined all returns except the internet security portions still not used. I think that's about $9 a year. In short, they lead me into expectations that I would be able to build this site, they took what they could as far as money goes from me based of false offers and this caused me to invest into other aspects of this to make it work and then they just pulled the plug on anything other than a site similar to their other 90% users which is NOT what I asked for, not what I invested into and in my eyes it holds less value than a free Google blog.
