I listed my two pets on Petfinder.com. I was emailed by Emily Tara Barlage from Lincoln Nebraska, requesting more information about the dogs. I asked her about her family because I want our pets to go to a loving home. She emailed me back with this great story about how she has been married to husband Rober Barlage for 12 years and has two girls. That one of the girls will be 10 yrs old this weekend and they were looking for a dog to adopt for her birthday. How they had a 10ft wood fence and big back yard for the dog to play in. She went on to say that they would pay any price for the adoption fee and upbringing of the dog. She also included that her husband knew a pet shipping company personally and would make all the arrangements. Like I said the story was great. She was pursistant on getting my information so that they could get a cashiers check out to me and so the pet shipping company can come to my door step and pick up my pets this morning. Now the red flag went up. I didn't like the idea of a stranger coming to my front door. So I told her I had to talk to my husband first before sending any information. My husband said it did sound to good to be true so I did a little research and found that she uses different versions of her name, if thats her name. I came across this website with the same story. Thank goodness for this site. I emailed her back and said My Husband declined and maybe she can find a pet closer to where she lives. Always do your research before giving your information out! I hope they put a stop to this scam, now these people have my email address and name. |

I also received an e-mail from Emily Barlage in Lincoln, NE. I'm used to seeing these scams b/c I advertise on Craigslist. The second "she" e-mailed me back I knew it was a scam. Although the e-mail sounds very nice, the etiquette used is not american. Neither is the manner of speech.
I wonder what exactly happens when someone does give the address. Does someone show up at your door and then commit some heinous crime?
And, I wonder if there is a penalty for these ppl?! |

I was emailed by the same person with the exact same story regarding the adoption of my cat. This person's English was awkward and he/she wanted personal information. I was also emailed by a "Mar Dave, " "Emily Johnson, " and a person named "Ana Gal." All of these emails contained similar phases and poor grammar so I am assuming that all of the emails were from the same person writing from different email addresses. |
