Ripoff Report Verified™ .. part of Ripoff Report Corporate Advocacy Business Remediation & Customer Satisfaction Program.A program that benefits the consumer, assures them of complete satisfaction and confidence when doing business with a member business.. The information provided in this report is based on comments made by Elisha Morgan during an on-site inspection held by a third party verification company with no biases toward Elisha Morgan Gemologist. Elisha Morgan Gemologist’s business is developed works off of referrals from other jewelers and satisfied customers to sell or acquire jewels within his specialized area of expertise which includes ruby, sapphire, old-cut diamonds, treatments, and other gems and antique jewelry. Mr. Morgan stated that he is a senior gemologist with an accredited association which makes his specialty rare (there are 116 senior members of the association). Once contacted by a client he asks them to first have an accredited gemologist provide a technical description of the item so that there is no confusion as to the exact parameters of the gem he will be assessing. He uses registered, insured mail for all material transactions and after receiving all of the information from the client and/or their gemologist he writes up an agreement that he has it notarized. Mr. Morgan stated that the federal government has some guidelines that are reflected in the bylaws of the Accredited Gemologists Association of America of which he is a member in good standing. He stated that he follows their ethical guidelines. He says that some of his practices are proprietary but that another accredited expert with his education and level of experience would arrive at similar pricing and evaluations. As a Gemologist, Mr. Morgan states “My target market is high end collectors who want to acquire something of rarity and are solvent enough financially that the purchase will not hurt them - particularly in the case that the value was to go down for a period due to the market.” He stays current on pricing in the market and completes the continuing education his association requires. Mr. Morgan states that he counsels his customers to seek advice from other experts. Additionally, to talk to their family jeweler if there is someone with whom their families has done business with over time so that they may get additional advice and confirm he is guiding them properly. Due to Mr. Morgan’s expertise and specialty he has precision equipment that the average jeweler would not purchase or possess to physically appraise the gems. He states, “I stay up on the pricing guides for the types of gems I regularly appraise (which are updated every 6 months).” He also uses an "independent gem stone pricing guide" of which he says there are several recognized, competing guides. Although, he was unwilling to name the guide he uses out of concern it could place him at a competitive disadvantage if made known. Additionally, he stated he will also sometimes ask the opinion of peers if he feels they have an expertise he can benefit from in a particular situation. Mr. Morgan discussed that the gem industry was going great until 2001 when the economy crashed and fewer people were trading in gems and antique jewelry. In the early 2000's he estimates his potential client base diminished 70-80% having a negative impact on pricing. There has been some improvement since then. The typical client experience that he provides is through attempting to educate the potential customer on the details of what he needs from them to accurately assess the stone. Furthermore, Mr. Morgan asks the potential client to seek any other assessments from other individuals that they feel the need to so that they are able to build a trusted relationship with him. He keeps a detailed notebook of the questions he is asked by each client and the answers he gives them. The complaints that Mr. Morgan receives are that some potential customers want more information from him than they are willing to pay for. He does his best to educate them about the process and specifically what he needs from them before proceeding. In regards to Ripoff Report’s request to “do whatever it takes” to make the client happy, Mr. Morgan feels like he has done everything he can to work with the person who made this complaint and has tried repeatedly to contact the person against the advice of his attorney. He has been willing to give the customer his money back. Mr. Morgan states that “I hope that by completing the interview and other Ripoff Report requirements I can get this resolved. A primary reason for the customer's inability to reach him as outlined in his complaint was because I was deployed in the military in Afghanistan for a portion of the time the man was trying to reach me. After, I returned to the U.S. and worked on a military contract that had me traveling a great deal, which made it difficult to reach me at times.” He furthermore stated that now he is no longer active military or working with that second company. Elisha Morgan Gemologists states that he is happy to be a part of the Corporate Advocacy Business Remediation and Customer Satisfaction Program and hopes that it reflects the professional reputation he has built since 1987. CUSTOMER STATEMENTS ABOUT ELISHA MORGAN GEMOLOGISTS. ” Jayne S. from Sonora, California stated "I luckily stumbled across Elisha Ralph Morgans web site while I was nervously searching for someone knowledgeable and experienced who could help me sell my old European cut diamond ring. After chatting with him at length I followed up with the references he gave me. They were glowing testimonials. I felt comfortable enough to move forward. Ralph was totally professional, a man of his word and a pleasure to deal with. He quickly found me a buyer for the ring. I was happy with the whole transaction. Ralph was the perfect man for the job, He is a shining diamond in a rough old world.” Rhonda A. from Austin, Texas stated: "Elisha Ralph Morgan spoke at a luncheon I attended in Austin and was most informative. He has a wealth of knowledge and the experience of being in many mines himself. We all certainly learned a lot from him. I actually talked to Ralph a few weeks later about two rings my sister wanted to sell which had appraisals on them. He was totally professional and very honest about the quality of her pieces and what she should expect they would bring. We have finally found a graduate gemologist we trust!" Dan I. from Hayesville, North Carolina stated: "I also found Elisha Ralph Morgan by doing an online search. I had been shopping my Mother-In-Law's diamond locally and was told all sorts of stories. Ralph was extremely informative in his appraisal and description of this stone. Ralph made me aware that it was not really an Old European cut as I had been told, but a transitional cut. Ralph kept in constant communication throughout the transaction. I would have no hesitation sending him another diamond for him to appraise and sell for me." Maria G. from McLean, Virginia stated: "Ralph and his Old European Diamond business was a great find!!! He can assist you with exactly what you want and all your gemological needs. You must send pictures and be ready with details and he will assist you and is very knowledgable about all aspects of the gems in question. Communication with him is very good and he is tremendous with his ability and speed to find exactly what you need. I felt comfortable with him and trust him, he is honest and does not sugar coat anything so that you will buy. I live in Virginia and have never met him but feel he is like a friend." In summary, after our investigation, which included discussions with Mr. Morgan and associates, Ripoff Report is convinced that Elisha Morgan Gemologists is committed to quality delivery of services resulting in total client satisfaction. In order to confirm that the complaints were resolved, Ripoff Report is copied on all responses so we can insure that the member business did right by their customer .. NOW TO THE ORIGINAL REPORT THAT WAS FILED / The author of the Report below never responded to Ripoff Reports email so Elisha Morgan could make things right with them ------------------------------------- Elisha Morgan Gemologist, Old European Diamonds, Kashmir-Sapphires, New England Gem Lab Con Man extraordinaire, steals and lies and takes your $$ NEVER EVER do business with him send him no $, send him no gems! Austin Texas Elisha swindled us and another customer in 2 entirely different separate creative schemes. us: He told us that he knew all about 'old' estate diamonds and he was wheeling and dealing and could buy and sell for handsome profits. he also convinced us that he was distantly related to us (as we were fond of geneology) and he also cozied up to us while serving together overseas. Nothing like being ripped off by a 'friend' and 'relative' We were not entirely convinced to invest in buying an old diamond from him, but then he pulled the ultimate: he promised that if he couldn't resell the diamond for us for a nice profit, he'd buy it back form us for what we paid for it. So--how could we lose?? I'll tell you how: he couldn't sell it, told us the market had suddenly dried up for those kinds of diamonds. we took possessionof the diamond and tried to slel ti as well and found no takers iint hat old style of diamond. So we, of course, asked hi to buy ti back. First off, he's back ovreseas and his wife tells us she can't reach him. Messages go unanswered for months, e-mails not responded to. when we finally make contact, he gives us a song and dance about personal hardships that should have nothing to do with running his business (father dying and sister ill) which were causing him to be destitute--yet his website(s) continue to tout how he can wheel and deal and buy and sell stones internationally. He painted himself as a man who buys and sells gemstones all the time. Evidently that was fraudulent. Otherwise, why can't he swing one of his own gemstone investments and make the $ he needs to simply give us our $ back and get back his supposedly valuable diamond? Why would he want to stick us--pure novices in gems--with a diamond when he has such a market for them?? Certainly the great gemologist Elijah Morgan with all his 'contact' should be able to sell this stone easily for a handy profit. (you'll note the hallmark of a rip off by the way he runs several websites, all claiming an 'us' involved in this great gem business but as far as anyone I've contacted knows, including the BBB, the only person involved in any of these businesses is Elisha Morgan! He used to be in New Hampshire, I think he's gotten a divorce and moved to Texas now.) I'll tell you why. Because part 2 of his rip off is what happened to a friend of ours (whom we met only by finding we'd both been ripped off by Elisha Morgan!) this fellow sent truly valuable jewelry pieces to Elisha for appraisals. Then--suddenly pieces end up missing while in Elisha's possession! Never returned. Never paid for, communication ceased! Detective in New Hampshire, Frank Moran, mentions similar incidents reported where Elisha Morgan had also 'lost' someone's jewlery items. Elisha Morgan, when he does respond, fails to communicate and immediately sends his lawyer after you. this man deserves a good flogging. B.D.O.
