I logged into doteasy in order to move my domain name to another hosting company. That required me to remove the privacy feature from my website and also to unlock it, which I did. However, when I tried to validate the removal of the privacy feature, the system refused the change until I updated my personal information. I did so. Originally, I had used a pseudonym (under which i write professionally) for the WHOIS and my real name for the billing info, so I simply changed the WHOIS name to the billing name (the person who pays for the site) and added a telephone number. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this caused doteasy to lock my domain name for 60 days, meaning it will expire tomorrow and I will either have to pay the price they want or lose my domain name. I called them and explained the situation but they have refused to listen to reason. I have been dealing with a rude supervisor who refuses to let me speak to anyone higher up the food chain. It is clear that I am the authorized person to make this change. They are refusing to allow the change only in order to extort payment from me for a service I do not wish them to provide, and they are holding my domain name and my livelihood hostage unless I capitulate to their demands. Worse, they deny having required me to make the changes in my contact information, but I know what the system told me to do. This is all just a ruse on the part of doteasy to punish people that wish to opt out of their inferior hosting plans and services.

I'm going through almost the same thing with Doteasy right now. I got the authorization code & initiated a transfer of my domain before it expired. I got a notice that the transfer was successful, followed a few minutes later by a message saying the transfer failed due to a lock status. I messaged Doteasy about the domain lock, but they did not reply until after my domain expired. I clearly checked the lock status of my domain when I was getting the authorization code and it showed to be unlocked. After the transfer failed I checked again and it showed to be locked. Doteasy refuses to unlock it now unless I pay their "domain release fee" which is the same dollar amount as renewing and hosting for another year. I've already paid for another registrar & host and do not want to do business with Doteasy any longer. Repeated messages to support & a phone call have failed to resolve this issue.
