I responsed to a craglist ad wanting a part time technician to fix 7 laptop computers. Next thing I know, he sends me a check for $3000 with complex instructions (see below). Just beware of this scam. THE PERSON AND COMPANY NAMES ARE:

your bank to get the get it cashed at your bank and if you are unable to get it cashed instantly kindly go ahead and deposit it into your bank account and funds will be available for withdrawal 24hrs after it has been deposited, I will be waiting for a confirmation message if it's either cashed or deposited, as soon as you have the funds, you are to
deduct your fee for the upgrading/reformatting of the 7 Laptops and have the balance wired to the shipping agent via Western Union.Also, deduct the transfer charges for the funds to be available in minutes from the rest funds you are sending okay to the shipping agent. Same scam posted using a listing for a part-time computer repair job in San Antonio on craigslist (http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/tch/2646351173.html). I replied to the ad, which was posted on Oct 12th, and received an email this morning that I swear I had seen somewhere before, and upon searching I found this site. It sounded like a scam from the minute I started reading it, but I wanted proof that it was. Needless to say, I will not be responding to the scammer again.

| Not only did I get this email I caught the guy doing it. It is actually three people who hack companies for fed ex accounts and have gotten their hands on actual bank cashiers checks. I received the check an immediately notified the sending company and bank. Then whoever sent the check followed up with an email today. I traced the IP of the email to a residence in California. Hope this guy enjoys prison. Why you would scam a systems security person is stupid. He did not even mask or spoof his IP. |

Boy I wish I had checked on this before I gave CEO Robert Francis JOYtech O Computer Systems, Inc a quote to do the work. When I got the email saying to deposit the Cashiers Check & remove my payment and send the rest of the money via Western Union a light went off in head!! SCAMMER!!! SCAMMER!!! SCAMMER!!!

| I had a similar run in with these guys...however I tracked their ip adress to a company that deals with dns registration. I called the companies IT department and we had a long chat...long story short this shit should end soon...or at least theyll get a good wake-up call! |

It's in Louisiana now. I got the same email(s) and a cashier's check for$3, 530.19. I knew it was a scam from day one and wanted to see just how far the idiot would go...lol. I do network security and how stupid would I have looked to fall for this b.s. I've already turned over all the info to the authorities.

Another update: this idiot actually sent me an email today. What he doesn't know is that I've already turned all the documents (phony cashier's check, fed ex docs, his IP address and all of his email accts) over to the feds. I contacted the bank in Cali that he counterfeited their cashier checks and they have gotten the FBI & Secret Service involved. I contacted the guy whose FedEx acct he hacked and the guy is livid. He said he's been getting all kind of calls about checks being sent from his FedEx acct. He called the FBI too. Hopefully the U.S. Marshals will be kicking this assclown's door down soon. I actually called the number that the idiot gave me and he answered. The guy had a heavy middle accent.
How stupid can this guy be to try and scam IT people?

Get in touch with your local police and then the Attorney General's office. Do NOT cash or attempt to cash the check. Also give all of the emails and any other info that you have to the Attorney General's office. I did all this a week ago and the Attorney General's office in Louisiana is on it now. They also have the FBI & Secret Service involved.
Is the check from Wescom Credit Union in CA? If so, I have their number. Also, call the person whose FedEx acct was used to send you the check. It should be on the fedEx envelope. |
