You have to have a computer nowadays to communicate with anyone.! Most of the Internet Service Providers I contacted wanted you to have a bank account & credit card. I will NOT put this information on line especially after seeing what that Wikileak man & his team was able to access. I got to see how my cousin's Time-Warner BASIC cable went from approximately $100-$139 a month to $500 a month. No thanks. AT&T's rates would escalate in similar fashion so said their service contract in the fine print, maybe not as extreme but more than I could afford. Clear would only take you if you had a credit card, etc. WHAT AM I TO DO? Here is Cricket promising you LIGHTNING FAST ,UNLIMITED WIRELESS BROADBAND INTERNET CONNECTION for $40/ a month PLUS THEY TAKE CASH PAYMENTS EVERY MONTH. Too good to be true? My alternative was to go to a 24/7 internet coffeehouse and put up w/ the kind of folk who come in there not to mention an age- and disability-discriminating, incredibly RUDE STAFF. I ate & drank exhorbantly priced items there without complaining because I realized you have to keep the doors open but the staff STILL was rude. So I took $100 down to a Cricket store, signed up and on my way w/ change in my pocket, a modem and what I thought was the lightning fast, UNLIMITED Broadband connection. I put the money down 10 Oct 2010. I chose the $40/mo. and you have to pay an additional $3 per mo. explained to me as "an Internet tax." Really? Took it home and it was amazing. TRULY UNLIMITED, EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED Comes November, I noticed I was having problems watching You Tube videos & listening to Internet Radio & what's up w/ this. Not only that, it was taking almost impossibly longer times to boot up. I kept dropping programs, tried various downloads and then I got on some wayback machine & archived programs & learned I was no longer on BROADBAND service, I had been DOWNGRADED to a DIAL UP STATUS W/ ALL THE HASSLES of that old-time SLOW AS MOLASSES, play Solitaire while it boots up...IF it boots up. Comes December, I paid my Bill on the 11th so I would still be within the 24-hour he deadline to pay. That was Saturday at noon. SUNDAY, my payment was posted but I WAS CUT OFF FROM THE SERVICE EVEN THOUGH I HAD PAID & IT HAD BEEN POSTED! I called team on the custiomer support team guys on the world's WORST wireless connection. Were they in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh? I didn't know could barely hear them. I was hung up on twice but the next day, there was nice guy w/ cool accent who reconnected me, even though the wireless phone connection was still horrible. From him I understood that I had apparently violated my FAIR USE RATE which was NOT in effect when I signed up. For $43 per month, I now get 40 hours of broadband service a month --not what my Norton Internet Software indicated when it measured my connectivity speed -- that is fewer hours than the free Assurance wireless phone providers for welfare clients gives out! AND I AM PAYING FOR CRICKET BROADBAND SERVICE TOO! I am paying for BROADBAND service, Getting DIAL-UP & 100 minutes to watch You Tube a month? Did I misunderstand something here? UNLIMITED WIRELESS IS NO LONGER UNLIMITED WIRELESS ANYMORE. |
