I called Crescent Prep when my high school in L.A. told me my senior year that they wouldn't be graduating me because of classes they refused to give me. Long story short, I was an 18 year old who had done my 4 years of high school (with a 3.2 GPS I might add) yet had no diploma. I'm a military brat who's trying to follow in my dad's footsteps, but can't because I'm stuck in what I like to refer to as "education limbo." At first I was excited because it was so easy. I only had 4 classes; a semester of Chem, and 3 electives. everything was so easy that I breezed through my entire workload in less than 2 months (and honestly, that was with A LOT of messing around) yet I had to wait almost 3 weeks for my teachers to grade any of my stuff; that's not a huge complaint because I understand that grading stupid papers and what-not can be time-consuming. If I DID need help, however, it was no easy task to get it. Two of my teachers emailed all their students saying that their computers were "ancient and caused a lot of issues." Is it just me, or does anyone else think that if someone is an ONLINE TEACHER, then maybe they should have DEPENDABLE COMPUTERS. Not to mention that most of my assignments were automatically graded when I finished them. About 3 months ago, I finished the miniscule workload that Crescent forced me to take (you must take a minimum of 2 credits worth of classes with them which equals about $700) and I called the school to confirm that I was good-to-go. The counselors said that I should have my ACTUAL diploma within a month and a half. It's been twice that long and it's hard to even talk to a real person on the phone now! Anytime I call to ask about my diploma, they just blame-shift it to the company that actually prints the diplomas, yet Crescent refuses to give me the company name. Every single time I call this school they take my name and munber and then don't call back, it's like they know how irate I am and they just dodge my calls. This school is a scam and I strongly suggest to any parents looking at this as an alternative for their child's high school education to find a different school. During my sophomore year, I took a semester to stay home with my mother (who has lupus, as well as a plethora of other health issues) and attended Kaplan online High School. They're not any better. |
