Combined Insurance Company of America Lies, Lies, Lies Wenatchee, Washington
22nd of Sep, 2011 by User437482
Honest people need not apply. If you are new to Sales, beware. Read the posts for this company, I wish I would have known about them before going through this. Take these internet flames for a grain of salt...but I read just about everyone of these reports...and my experience was similar. Now I know, that there are some successful people in this company...I did not personally meet them. I did talk to a few...but they were "towing the company line". I could not get an honest answer on how to be successful in this company. The people I would ask, would give me whatever recent tagline on success that was popular with the training department. In my 8 months with Combined, there were several changes in their sales strategy. "Sales School" (which by the way was decent; they put you up in a nice hotel, feed you a decent breakfast--you are on your own for anything else--but this is the last good feeling I had with this company); "sales school" gave the "students" an outline to 'be successful'...it seems to me, that unless your 'area' is not in a recession, and not overworked, then one might have a chance. The management structure in the Pacific Northwest (southern oregon) is a joke. If you are not a team player; meaning: if you are not willing to force-sell and lie to prospects...then you are outcast.
Beware...they say they are hiring you for "your" area, but they expect you to travel, uncompensated, to "service" their clients...example: if you cant sell them anything you will not get paid. Commission only, I understand. But traveling 3 hours away at almost $4/gallon is insane. I refused, then the District Manager did not send me new local assignments.
My First District Manager quit before I finished sales school. territory manager had quit, I was left on my own for the remainder of my "training". The biggest problem is; if you don't sell anything for 3 weeks straight...they "fire" you...despite the fact if you have been hitting the pavement or not. Then they will lie and say that you abandoned your job, making it impossible to collect unemployment. not that that is important...but when one is looking for more work, it helps. Honest people looking for steady work...beware. Those that are new to the Insurance field...beware. Unless you have a large number of contacts 200-300 people that you can sell to straight away...then expect to be broke. I had some good advice told to me on my last days...by other agents, working for other companies. It takes a few years to get established, unless you have 200-300 people of decent contact...then you struggle.
